Back is sore today, feels like DOMS from the other day. I took yesterday off from the gym due to the fact that it was the last day of school for both my kids and I forgot my towel and change of underwear so I wouldn't have been able to take a shower. I will resume today and I am going to pick up a long foam roller so I can do more core exercises for my back. I am definitely sore from the BOSU squats. Those things kick my ass. But, I gotta get myself ready for the fall soccer season.
My son starts soccer camp today and I will be busy taking care of the accounting for the chicken sale. Been a busy couple of days and things may be improving at work. We'll see. It is difficult to distinguish between projects that need to be completed vs. projects that can be put off for awhile. Things are about to get hairy as we embark on a massive expansion. Hang on, it could be a rough ride!

Training core for the last two days and trying to relieve the sciatica that is kicking my ass! Been waking up 3-4 times a night with cramps in my calfs and outside front of my shins, sometimes at the same time so when i try to relieve one the other gets worse. Couple nights ago I woke up to my left calf in a ball near my knee.
Doing a lot of work on the Bosu ball both with the round side up and balancing with one leg at a time raising it backwards and doing squats and other balancing exercises on the flat side with the ball side on the floor.
Also using the the Jumbo Balance Dome. This is smaller than the Bosu so it is much more difficult to keep balanced and it only has room for one foot. I have been using this for one legged squats with the round side down. Also doing some other type balancing exercises with one leg. So been doing several balancing exercises on this to strengthen the core muscles of the pelvic girdle area. I am figuring that once I get my pelvic girdle back to strength I will need to dedicate one day a week to these types of exercises.
On a whole other front, USA vs Australia at 2 am HST Saturday morning. I will DVR it and watch it when i get up unless I experience more cramps and i am up anyways....WTF? Training for life and other stuff!

Sorry to hear your back is acting up Dman I'm familiar with the bosu ball we use it in rehab just like you explained, good stuff.
Are you stretching regularly? have you ever foamed rolled your back? if not I highly recommend it as well as your hamstrings.
Hope you feel better soonBeing a real lifter is not about a number, or a medal, or somebody else telling you that you are a real lifter. It is about commitment to the iron and strength of purpose.

Thanks G. How do you roll the back? I have a foam roller that I use for my IT Band once in awhile but since I discovered my issues are sciatic nerve related I have ceased rolling the IT Band since it just made the pain worse. I stretch the hammies regularly and I stretch the piriformis with a strange looking stretch where I put one leg about 122 in front of the other and bend at the waist while holding a countertop in front of me. It sounds weird but it really stretches exactly where I need it. I have been on the core program for about a week and I can definitely tell a difference. Hopefully two to three weeks of this will have me back to normal and I will be able to knock the core stuff down to a couple days a week and then just to mornings.

If you have a regular round foam roller just lay on top with legs bent and roll up and down back, if you have alot of knots and adhesion's it will be painful but only during not afterward.
When you roll your ITband is it painful during or afterward?
Here's a good piriformis stretch, there are many different ways just do what works works best for you, I love the foam roller and use it after a hard session and the next day.

According to my Treat Your own Back book my back is actually getting better. I will continue on the same exercises I have been doing and hope to see some major improvement in the next few days. The pain has centralized to my mid back and really only gives me issue when I try to stand up after sitting for a spell or when I straighten up after bending forward for a few minutes. According to the book I have made significant progress and am only days away from being pain free. Along those lines, the stiffness in my lower back has all but disappeared and the pain that was radiating down my leg and into my foot has also disappeared. So progress it is!

Thanks guys, back continues to improve. I almost slept through the night last night. Still waiting on the McKenzie sleeping roll to come in and I am betting that it will help a ton with the pains I get from sleeping on my sides. If I could just sleep on my stomach all night I would be good to go but I tend to roll over on my sides and it just seems to lock up my back. As I was doing the cobra stretches yesterday I could feel the vertabrae pop back into place. It was kinda weird, not like when you go to the chiro but more of a slow movement into place. Feels a lot better when the back is in the correct alignment and being able to get it there by myself is a huge bonus. Back to the gym today for more cardio and core-ture...

Stay on those stretches, Don! And massage isn't a bad idea at all! I've never had a pro massage before, but I know guys who swear by them, say it helps them stay loose and relieves a lot of pain like you are having.
Glad you're feeling better tho, man. Hang loose, bruh!★DSC★
