Im new to lifting, but i understand that nutrition plays a big part in growing.
I was wondering what would make a good pre bed meal, and what your personal favorites are. Thanks

you can either drink your shake and be bored, or you can make a protein brownie, I just finished mine (whey + water nuke for 1 min) and its just like cake.

How about you (or anyone who believes what jOzz posted) provide any science supporting such a brotastic belief.
As for my comment, you may like to see Intermittent fasting does not affect whole-body glucose, lipid, or protein metabolism, Maarten R Soeters, et.al Am J Clin Nutr 90: 1244-1251, November 2009 during which subjects underwent periods of 20 hour fasting cycles and exhibited no measurable LBM loss. 20 hours seems to be a lot longer than the average person sleeps.
My opinion is that even if you were concerned, you could just take ANY type of protein before bed (a scoop or two of even WHEY protein powder) and that will provide you with aminos at the beginning of your slumber and further reduce the amount of time you go without protein.

I cook up some oatmeal....add a tablespoon of natty and a scoop of whey........cottage cheese and I'll cut up celery, onions, fresh spinach, salt and pepper......If i'm in a lazy mood I'll mix up a isolate whey shake using water....sometimes add fresh or frozen fruit, ice and splenda....Every now and then I'll foreman grill some chicken or steak....addin hrebs and salt to taste......Good Luck dude........Self
While liftin duh weights I yell out..."You sexy beast"...."Squeeze metal for papa".

Fine, without using the word that you dislike, I still provided you with quantifiable research specifically addressing lean body mass loss during a certain time period of taking NO protein. You have not provided anything to refute that. You mention "what's been shown to work", well, I just showed you something and you are disregarding it based on what? Someone's anecdotal comments? Just because a bodybuilder takes casein before bed does not mean that he would have lost muscle if he took another type of protein before bed, assuming that his diet is already high in overall protein.
But I always keep an open mind, so if you can show me any evidence supporting your apparent position that you will experience muscle loss if you fail to have casein protein before bed, I would love to see it.

there are **** loads of articles going on about how slow digesting protein is better the whey at times of fasting but obviously your going to claim bro science and all the studies have been payed for by companies blah blah blah.
" Casein is considered a "slow" protein. When you consume casein, you will reach a peak in blood amino acids and protein synthesis between 3 to 4 hours.5,12
This peak, however, does not even come close to that of whey. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the highest or fastest), whey would be a 10. Casein would come in with a meager rating of 2.
But, here is the kicker. That is not a bad thing! This, too, is a good thing. Casein dramatically slows the rate of protein breakdown. Remember, muscle growth is dependant on the balance of protein synthesis and breakdown.
So as we can see here, relying on one or the other, and debating which is superior is futile in the hopes to gain the most benefits from them. To tip the scale in your favor, you need to increase protein synthesis and slow down muscle breakdown. You would be a fool to write one off."
that was the first thing that poped into my google search. if you want many many more articles then simply google it.
no im not brain washed by supplement companies. i do not believe you need the massive amounts of protein per lbm of body mass to grow. no i do not believe you need any supplements at all. i do not believes you need 6+ meals a day either. but i do believe that long periods of fasting on a regular basis is negative for muscle grown and repairMy are your are birds are all and one gone away the they

Right now I'm taking 2 scoops of whey before bed since I do not currently have casein protein on me, how much more beneficial would casein be over whey?
