Theres a lot of work coming up for the summer, generally the construction managers apply for what they need through the union/HR so if you have no skill and no nobody you probably have to go through HR which is always a bitch
things that will guarantee you never get a job:
Unclean abstract (DUI=done for ever)
criminal record
Other than that, apply and stress your aptitude towards safety and working hard, never ask about pay/benefits (other than something like housing/travel arrangements) and hope for the best
try applying for some of the large oilsands/service companies shell, syncrude, etc look around

Even with such high wages, 30 percent of the tar sands population live below the poverty line, because inflation has driven the cost of a home to $600,000 or more and even a trailer can cost $300,000.
Workplace injuries and even death are common. In 2007, there were 154 people killed on the job and 34,000 injured, according to Nikiforuk. Investigations proceed at a glacial pace and the many foreign workers – from China, Venezuela, Mexico, Croatia and other developing countries – are even more likely to be left without recourse if injured on the job.
High rates of suicide and self-injury and the grisly toll of auto accidents on the infamous Highway 63 leading to the tar sands are other morbid results of the industry, Nikiforuk writes.

Think I'm gonna put in another 6 months on the job to look better on the resume, then see about getting one of those general labour jobs. Thing is from what I read, you need a job with camp or you'll be renting a bachelor apartment for like $1400/month.
If I could move out there, get $25/hr starting, with camp, food paid, overtime, 70-80 hours/week I'd do whatever man. No homo.
