Question How can I lose body fat, maintain strength and create an appealing physique?

    Age: 17 turning 18
    Height : 5 ft 6-7
    Weight: 150 lbs/70 kg

I want to lose body fat because I'm carrying quite alot on my chest and gut but I still want to improve the look of my physique at the same time, I don't want to just shed weight and look like a twig, is that possible to avoid whilst on a cut?

Should I be adding cardio to my weights training? I'm signing upto the gym this weekend coming so I'm wondering if I should be doing any cardio, like I said I don't want to look like a twig I just want to shed the fat and create a nice physique, once my bodyfat is low and satisfactory to my liking I'm going to do a clean bulk.

Some people will tell me to bulk and then cut but because I've had man jugs and a bit of a gut for almost a few years now the last thing I want to do is bulk and add to it, I would rather just get rid of it then bulk cleanly with minimal fat gains.

So in short, how do I go about losing body fat, maintaining strength and creating an appealing physique without looking like a twig? I basically want people to see that I workout and take great care of my body.

All help and advice is appreciated, thank you.

Also I looked at Rippetoe's routine, should I add some core exercises to it like floor whipers or hanging leg raises?

Heavy compound lifts are all 'core' exercises as your core is what stabilises your body and keeps your upper torso in position. You can imagine how much it comes into play on heavy squats/deads.

That said, if you want to do a bit more yes, but just do a few exercises 1 day a week. All you need.
