my sixpack will likely be at 31"

36" waist is ILLEGAL in Japan as of 2008, do you feel 36" is an unhealthy waist size for a casual person not into fitness?

definitely not lean, but probably not fat either. everyone caries weight differently, but I'd say thats still in the healthy range.

Yeah, that can be a huge difference.

Some of my jeans are 32's and fit the same as some of my other pairs that are 34's. Different brands make stuff way off.

I don't know. I got in an argument on Digg about this, so I wanted the opinion of the bb.com community *I* was going by pants size. Apparently waist means different things to different people.

Honestly I'm 6'3 if it makes a difference but my waist in this pic was around 34 inches. http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/im...xsPiT4940.jpeg

Pretty ****ing skinny at that point in time. I'm 25 pounds heavier and added maybe an inch to my waist but you can still see my abs so I am just under 36.
In my opinion a 36 inch waist is not "fat" unless you have a really small built frame.

My jeans are all 36" and are all loose on me, but I'm still fat. Tape measure says 38", not sure if I'm using it correctly though.

Pants are worn around the hips not the waist. If you measure your hips with a measuring tape I bet it will be bigger than what you think.

The waist would be measured from the navel.

If your going by jean size i'm a 34 and I consider myself. I would agree your waist in round you navel but wear your jeans there if you want to look like simon cowell.

I think it just depends on the person tbh...my bro is 6' and is big boned. When he came back from marine boot camp i could see his ribs and abs and he was a size 36" in pants size(i guess this is the hips more than waist)....that was just the size of his body. Nothing wrong with that or nothing u can do about that, i mean, u gonna shave your hip bones to fit into a 32 rofl?? From your pics its hard to tell. But i thought i was "big boned" back when i was a lard and now i realize that i have a rather very small frame. Could probably fit into a 29-30" pants if i loss a few more pounds. I'm 33" pants now.

Its like stupid wii system told me i was overweight...based on my height and weight...it all depends on your body dude.

Well, I'm 6'0'' and before starting to do exercise I had a 34''-35'' waist. I was definitely fat. Not "obese" but fat.

6ft with 30-30.5" waist here. I think 36" maybe on bigger size but it can depend on frame, height and all. Was 37" 6 months ago.

Just as BMI is a generalization as is waist size. I hope people are intelligent enough to know that general manner I am referencing doesn't mean I am saying a 5'6 male in size 44 jeans is in any way, shape or form healthy. Yet from experiences of my own I can go from a size 38 to a 34 when my weight differential may only be 10lbs. Yet that 10lbs can also not even effect my waist size at the same time. Even though my BMI changes because of the the weight differential(s) my body has experienced it doesn't mean I have lost or gained weight in my waist that would change my waist size. There are many areas of health we need to focus on - but so many focus on singular health attributes. We need to teach people a perfect BMI doesn't mean perfect body fat %'re, or a perfect BMI and Waist Size doesn't guarantee good cholesterol and or blood pressure. Health is much more than what meets the eye both figuritively and literally.

Health whether physical or mental is still a world full of such misunderstanding but more people then ever are to starting to give learning about it a shot. That is a beautiful thing.
