In general yes, diet sodas are safe to drink when cutting. They provide zero calories. The precise amount of diet soda depends on the type of sweetener used. Look to see whether your choice of diet soda is sweetened by aspartame or acesulfame-K (usually diet lemon-lime soda) or sucralose.

pepsi max for me but not to much as all the chemicals can't be good for you, people are now going to tell me that studies have been done to prove that it's safe and yes in reasonable amounts but please explain how alot of people get headaches and they stop after they get off these drinks and I personally get aching pains in my arms when I drink a pepsi max...

    Again in moderation is fine

Even if you don't believe in aspartame poisoning, go read up on what phosphoric acid does to your system
read up on acids vs alkalines in your diet
and how artificial sugars spike cravings for food

Diet Snapple really is the bomb.

I don't go near any soda, diet or otherwise because I don't want all the artificial sweetners messing with my metabolism, telling my body to store fat, etc., which they most certainly do.

I was however, surprised to find that Diet Snapple doesn't contain aspartame, which is the main reason why diet sodas are so bad for you.

Care to provide any citations and/or links for those of us who are non-believers?

I'm thinking that the stomach is a pretty acidic place already. Seems like if you eat plenty of veggies, that would counter balance the acid that you seem to be worried about.

I usually drink diet green tea but if im out at a bar or out to eat i get diet soda. I actually prefer the taste of diet to regular now that i have been drinking diet for so long. Everyday i drink diet green tea, sugar free energy drinks, and atleast a gallon of water. I dont keep diet soda in my house just because i like the other things ive mentioned better

I like Shasta diet cream, made with splenda, also Hansen's root beer or black cherry. Lately I've gotten into Diet Cherry Dr Pepper. There's no data that suggests they alter metabolism. I have gotten headaches which I think came from drinking too much aspartame, so I try not to overdo it. And I SMH whenever I hear someone say the sweetness induces cravings. Don't know if it does or not, but who cares? are we a bunch of dumb animals that get a craving and just satisfy it? anyone serious about fitness eats by decision not craving.

Yep, in the sense that you don't gain weight from it. I was drinking nearly 4 liters a day when losing weight.

I was however, surprised to find that Diet Snapple doesn't contain aspartame, which is the main reason why diet sodas are so bad for you.
    1) Artificial sweeteners do not mess with your metabolism, they have no caloric value. Just because you taste something sweet, doesn't mean your body is going to store any energy as fat(and even if it did, they have no caloric value anyways). Your body has more complex ways of identifying something as a carbohydrate(sugar) than the nerves responsible for taste in your tongue.

    2) Aspartame is not toxic, at least not in doses that could conceivably be consumed by a human, I'm talking the equivalent of over 300 cans of diet soda PER DAY.

Too much sorbital can cause stress on your bowels though, giving the seldom seen and often feared mega ****s.

I find that when I drink diet soda I am even hungier. But some people feel satisfied since it gives them something besides water. If it works for you then drink away.
