Assuming typical 3x5 exercises involving bench, squats, deads etc. Is there a calculator somewhere to get an idea of amount of calories burned?

to me lifting is a hard one because of the rest between sets, metabolism boosting effect of having more muscle, and the energy use to rebuild your muscles after tearing are all very hard to calculate factors

i have this device called the body bugg and it came with a watch to see how many calories i burned. i can reset it whenever i do a exercise. so when i hit the weights i reset it right then and there. i burn about 200 calories. its not vigorous weight lifting but its moderate. lol thing about it is the body bugg costs $$$$..
i decided to get it to help take all that damn guess work away lol.

I can't imagine that would be good for anything. Too many other factors to consider besides just your weight, time of activity, and the activity you're performing.
What about how hard you lift, or how long you rest, or bf%? All play very important factors in how many calories you burn.
You're unlikely to find very accurate counts on websites. Ballpark figures, yeah, but not very accurate.May 2004 - 225 lbs.
May 2010 - 145 lbs.

I wear my HRM during my entire workout, both lifting and cardio.
I typically burn around 450 calories during a 30 minute cardio session with my average HR of around 155-158. During lifing for 30 minutes (using weights I consider heavy for me) with less than a minute rest between sets, I average around 350 calories burned with an average HR of around 138-141. So, I think you still have a meaningful burn during lifting it's just not as much as during a cardio session of equal length since you HR generally is a little lower.Vikings--Wolves-Gophers

Unless you are running at an average of about 8mph for 30 minutes, you aren't hitting 450 calories during a cardio session.
As for lifting, it depends on rest between sets and heart rate too. I wouldn't even calculate it.I Rep back always. Put it in comment.

I don't ever count exercise into my daily deficit....just gives you the impression to eat more. I dont recommend doing it either, just workout hard.....keep track of your diet as if you aren't even active and go from there.

Oh and how would you know? I'm 235lbs and my HR rate is about 80% most of the time, so I'd say that's about right. The machines estimate 20-30% higher than my HRM which would be more like 500-550. I do elliptical machines, not treadmill typically. When walk/jog on the treadmill I only burn around 350 or so in 30 minutes. Sorry, but I think my HRM is much better at estimating my calories burned than you are.Vikings--Wolves-Gophers

If you say so lol.
However, to the op, I would recommend as the other poster said. Stick to a routine and calculate your calories only from food.I Rep back always. Put it in comment.

Quit being an A-Hole.
I would trust what a HRM says over some high and mighty a-hole like you. The bottom line is I was 235 and my HR is in the 150's and 160's during cardio. If you had half a brain you could do the math and see that 450 is within reason. Of course if you are smaller you won't get the same results.Vikings--Wolves-Gophers

I asked my Personal Trainer about that same thing and she told me i could figure on burning between 500-600 calories per hour of lifting. You have to factor in that when we work out together and now on my own, i go home physically and mentally drained and i'm usually soaked with sweat. I don't know how this factors in to calculating an actual number of calories burned, but suffice to say that i leave having burned more calories than i would have had i not gone to the gym. Add the the deficit i'm already on through eating, the gym workout is just a bonus.
Cardio tends to be between 350-500 per 30-40 minutes.

smh @ some of the misinformation ITT.
No brain, no gain.
