Anderson Silva has a challenge directly in front of him at Saturday's UFC 112, but as he's one to do, he's already looking into the future.
The UFC middleweight champion apparently has his mind on all sorts of scenarios, including a possible drop to 170 pounds to take on Georges St. Pierre, according to an interview with Yahoo's Kevin Iole.
"I'd like to test myself and I always love to take on new challenges," Silva said in the interview. "It's not that I want to go fight Georges St. Pierre for his title. There's no doubt in my mind that he's the reigning champion, the absolute champion, in that weight category. But I just want to test myself and see how I'd do at that weight."
Silva said that if he did it, he'd have to do two fights at 170; one to make sure he could make the weight, and the second a superfight with GSP.
Such a scenario seems somewhat improbable given Silva's size. Though he fought as low as 167 pounds in the early part of his career, he's no longer the wiry kid he used to be. At 6-foot-2, he's fought as a middleweight and light-heavyweight since joining the UFC in 2006, and often gets as high as 215-220 pounds in between fights.
Silva also said he'd consider going in the opposite direction and potentially fighting as a heavyweight.
Neither seems very likely, as Silva's frame seems better suited to the 185-pound and 205-pound divisions. But it seems clear that he's on the hunt for a big challenge as long as he's able to get past Demian Maia on Saturday.

I don't think GSP is ducking, but that's friggin hilarious.

If you refer to a fighter who you've never met in real life as "my boy" as though their performance somehow reflects well on you for simply being a fan, you're a lame ass.

I dont think anderson could make 170????? GSP could come up but I doubt he wants to do that. Who know's maybe a catch weight 3 round non tital fight. Anderson could clearly move to 205 and clean out most of the division. But he wont fight his freinds.LOL But If Lyoto looses to Shogun, we may see Anderson go after it. 2 X Chute Box guys and a real chance of a 2 belt tital holder.

Catch-Weight at 177-178 seems logical. GSP wont have have to bulk for the next 5 years and Silva made 175 back in 2006 so 177-178 seems doable. Sign it!
It is universally well known, that in digesting our common food, there is created or produced in the bowels of human creatures, a great quantity of wind. That the permitting this air to escape and mix with the atmosphere, is usually offensive to the company, from the fetid smell that accompanies it. That all well-bred people therefore, to avoid giving such offence, forcibly restrain the efforts of nature to discharge that wind.

The biggest challenge for silva in that would be making weight and being weaker/lighter. But If silva really made weight and went 100% on gsp, I doubt gsp could last a round. If GSP has any sort of weakness it's his chin - and silva is the most accurate striker ever. I mean the guy tko'ed forrest with a backward paw with his other hand down.
Gsp's game plan is going to be takedown/g&p but silva would catch him with a knee or something as he came in for a double - and that would be the end. I'd ****ing love to see that fight though. That bj/gsp II fight was a let down, but I really can't see this one NOT being a huge superfight. No matter who won it would be exciting.
I'd almost rather see Silva go HW though. He's proven he can likely beat anyone in LHW, and prob a couple top 10 hw's (mir, nog, randy if he was still hw).
**** brown pride isn't fighting anyone? Lets do that up hahahaLast edited by Calfmaster; 04-07-2010 at 01:31 PM.

id much rather see silva jump to 205 and take on guys from up there. he did awesome against griffen id like to see him take on maybe thiago silva or jon jones. nobody in direct contention for a title yet, but dangerous guys nonetheless. and if shgun wins maybe relinquish his title at 185 and make a run for 205. itd be too taxing on his body to drop down if theres not a catchweight. around 180

I would rather see a catchweight superfight without a title the ufc can still make it 5 rounds.
