    Weight food before or after cooking??

    I cooked some steak for lunch. I weight it before i cooked it it weight 6oz whihc is these number
    Calories 322

    fat 14.2

    carbs 0.0

    Protein 45.8

    i weighted it after i cooked it and it weighted 3.5oz
    C185

    F8.2

    C0.0

    P26.2
    This is a lot of calorie difference.

    I know this has been discussed a bit but i got no real answer.

    Please help.

    Weight given on outside of packages in store is the uncooked weight, and that is what they go by for nutritional info. Therefore, you should weigh it before you cook.

    As an aside, you had steak and depends on how you cook it. Cook it rare and it will maintain a lot of its weight. Cook it well done and it will lose some if its weight.

    Also, depends on fat content. For example, 75/25 beef will lose nearly 20% of its mass when cooked. 93/7 ground beef, will lose much less.

    okay so i weigh it raw and its 6oz thats what i put in my log.

    i weigh all my food after cooking it... seems more logical to me, when you cook meat so much gets burned off and the weight is much different. im not sure about this though but it seems like it would make more sense lol. i dont weigh oats, i measure them precooked. but you also add water/milk thus making it much heavier lol.

    seems like it depends on the food huh
