Is it a bad idea to have a protein shake before bed?

Is it bad to have a scoop of whey mixed with mild before bed? My goal is to gain lean muscle mass and lose fat. Will doing so be bad for my goal?

It will be very beneficial. That's a myth, you won't gain fat eating before bed.

A shake before bed is fine, however casein is ideal before bed as it is takes much longer to digest than whey which will keep the body in a anabolic state while sleeping more efficiently than whey.

    Milk has casein.

So yup OP, it's good. But have if you've already reached your daily protein requirement I see no reason for adding more except for maybe the glass of milk without the whey.

...Both proteins (casein/whey) enter the bloodstream at about the same time

OP: It's okay to have a protein shake before bed, just make sure it fits your diet.

That is true however milk is 80% casein. I would assume he is consuming the whey with 1 glass of milk which yields 9g of protein, 7.2g coming from casein. Personally I try to consume 1 cup of cottage cheese before bed which will give me around 28g of casein compared to 7.2g of casein from milk.

    Milk is also 87% water.

I would go with the cottage cheese too!

Exactly! Don't think that drinking one more protein shake before bed is going to give you any better gains. I've you already consumed 150g of protein today there is really no need for more. I would have the glass of milk anyway.

A lot of people say they take a spoon of peanut butter too when they have their cottage cheese to slow down the digestion. I don't know if that actually works but I thought I'd put it out there.
