    Gain strength without mass

I am a wrestler and I am about 145lbs right now. Next season I want to wrestle at 137lbs so I want to stay the weight I am at right now so that I don't have to cut too much weight next year but i want to continue to gain strength. I was wondering if anyone knows any workout routines that are good for doing this. thank you.

heavy lifts that aren't focused on hypertrophy are readily available throughout this site...think heavy heavy weight with low rep counts...

    Thumbs up

To gain strength you have to lift HEAVY.' If I were you I would continue to lift heavy and WATCH UR DIET. Maintaing your weight with what u eat and TRAINING HARD WITH HEAVY WEIGHT WILL give you the strength you are looking for.. If you see you are eating more calories to FUEL your INTENSE workout and start to gain weight. Do some cardio once or twice a week to drop the 2-4 lbs needed. Goodluck.

Okay thank you. I was wondering if the the low reps will cause me to lose endurance?

Lift heavy. I think something like Starting Strength would probably be best in your case (sounds cliche to recommend this but it's generally a great starter for athletes looking to gain strength) Keep you calories a little higher on days you lift and a little lower on days you dont lift. To get the best of both worlds I would mix in cardio to keep your endurance up as well. LIFT: Mon/Wed/Fri + 20 minute walk after lifting days and then stretch CARDIO: Tues/Thurs/Sat (I'd go with jogging outside, jumping rope, and swimming for good forms of cardio in this situation) I'd keep my cardio to less than an hour but try an make it intense. This should keep your body used to the pysical rigors.

Normally I would suggest SS but on a maintenance diet the linear progression workout to workout might crush you.

Wendler's 5/3/1 would be a good way to gain strength on a diet without a calorie surplus.

I agree, perhaps also look at Allpro's beginner workout or BS 5x5 as the progression is not as agressive as SS.
