Finally finished my platform up.....
Only thing I did differently is not put any screws in the top surface. So the top piece of wood and rubber are only held in place with some gorilla glue. Hopefully that works, if not I can screw them down later.
I love it - highly recommended for anyone with a home gym.

Actually yeah, if the center piece were 6" narrower the weights would sit a little more centered on the rubber. The stall mat I found was 4' x 6' so I could have easily cut the rubber 3" longer on each side to make up for it.
I've only used it a couple times since it has been glued....if I ever have any problems I'll check back in. This thing is incredibly heavy, and doesn't have much lateral loading, so I can't imagine ever having an issue with it just being glued. My Journal (RIP 05/11 - 09/13):

Nice platform...Once I clear more room in the garage this is my next piece to put in it. Quick question...did you stain the center wood/polyeurathane? Would like to know how tacky/sticky it is and if this effects lifts or not. Repped.

Thanks for the reply...wasn't sure if you used just a stain or an all-in-one. I guess the poly would help prevent tackiness in the stain itself.
As for you wondering about leaving the screws out of the top of the platform, I would think everything would be fine with the liquid nail.
The only issues I would see is if the platform were in a high heat area and you had to move it, otherwise I don't think it would budge.[II]---[II] Equipment Crew #49 [II]---[II]
