It's like you can't question the military without everyone jumping on you. Guess what there are some douchebags in uniform, Our forces do bad **** during conflict. We drop bombs on civilians.
Now there are also a lot of alpha mofo's in uniform who joined for the right reasons and to these guys I give you my full respect and gratitude I had a family member for instance who died serving in Afghanistan but I'm tired of everyone acting like every soldier is a fcking saint and we're not allowed to question anything about them.
Not every member of the military is a hero and some are straight up evil fckers. Everything I say comes from personal experience btw not the news or second hand accounts.

IF you join the military for any reason other than defending your country you are a mercenary. The vast vast majority of people who end up in the military are people who have no direction in life, be it because they need to move away from their shiitty life and start again, or because they are lazy/dumb and can't hack it in the real world. Every time someone posts a thread about being depressed 30 military people will advise him to join the military.

most people i know that have joined the forces have done so because they failed at school but they needed a career.
Fair play to those who do risk their lives regardless of profession - stunt man, fireman, soldier, guy who maintains electricty pilons etc etc.

the easiest thing in the world is to send ur country to war. u just fake an act of terrorism and then call anyone who speaks out against an invansion a traitor, and the pro war people patriots.
u know i actually read that a couple of years BEFORE 9/11 happened. my mind = blown at that time.

Yeah also speaking from experience you're right. Some of the things I've seen/heard have left a bad taste in my mouth.

^^ Godsangina's response lol, See?
I agree with you OP, But what can we say? we get ridiculed for saying why we joined. Some examples.
typical liberal ***got response(on this forum anyways)
1.Fighting to protect our country=Derp derp, there hasn't been a threat to our country since WW2.
2.Needed money for college=Failure in high school so last resort, you're probably a criminal.
3.Wanted to follow in family members footsteps=stupid arrogant redneck American.
those are just some lol. I don't think everyone in the Military are Hero's, only a few. Most guys i know are humble, its the public making them out to all be Hero's.Last edited by Brando0331; 03-25-2010 at 03:15 AM.

I joined because I was in the "**** or get off the pot situation," turned out to be a great choice. And that is before the formerly recent depression that we have succumbed to.
You only respect infantry but no disrespect to the other 90%(guess) of the military? lol k.Baltimore Ravens.

Honestly OP, I'm surprised you aren't negged into the red/yelled at by other members/mods. I guess you can wait until morning. Guarantee your thread will reach 3-5 pages AT LEAST in the next 8 hours.
I repped you to offset the incoming negs.

I have no problem with someone joining the military merely as a career option, I can totally respect that respect anyone who does a really tough high pressure job and getting shot at risking being hit by an IED is pretty tough and high pressure lol. I know quite a few people in the armed forces, my family members who joined did so mainly because it is a kind of family tradition on my mothers side. Others tell me they joined because they didn't have a lot of options at the time and once in they end up fighting for the guy next to them which is very commendable.
A LOT of people join because they want to shoot some arabs. I have no respect at all for these people military or not.Last edited by QB_Killa; 03-25-2010 at 03:24 AM.

What about the people who joined because they wanted to be able to yell "YO JOE!" when fighting off Cobra?
Let's put a smile on that face :)

I don't think members of the military think they are special or heroes in anyway.
