Sometimes I just have to ask myself...how can you seriously believe in those fairytales? How can you believe that the earth was created 6000yrs ago, even though all the evidence says otherwise?
Is it really possible to live in such denial? Or are these ppl just plain retarded?

Studys would point to this, google it. Its not so much that people lack mental capacity, rather they are too emotionally invested in their belief.

just about every genius there was, were all spiritual. i mean just look around you, you dont think everything just popped up right? you can argue back and forth on this point but it always comes down to the point of the first mover. something had to start everything. im an intellectual person and the thing i struggle with most is not spirituality but organized religion and how it divides people rather than bringing them together.

There's no way I'm getting into a discussion on this here as this is an age old convo that will never end. I will say this, I believe that it takes just as much "faith" to believe that life created itself via some random big bang as it does to believe that there's an intelligent creator. Either way, we're all believing something based on faith and no real idea WTH life came from.

Not always, and this is why.
Conformity is an important part of our evolutionary history, we would not have survived without it - kids have to be able to conform in order to learn from their parents, hence who was the best at this survived, their genes passed along etc.
I equate it to hypnosis - not everyone can be hypnotized, but some are susceptible to it. It has to be something you are born with a disposition for (in this case infantile behavior well into adulthood) like everything else. Plus religion attracts not only followers, but "leaders" (conmen who cant make it in the real world, ****philes, beta ****s who want instant respect, or idiots genuinely brainwashed into believing this crap). There is something for everyone in the cult world and it all boils down to fear of death, and the need for constant instant gratification. Plain and simple, religion is childhood for adults. Kids have imaginary friends with super powers, deluded adults have their own personal deity. Kids have Santa who keeps track if they are naughty or nice and has a magic list, deluded adults have Jeebus, Muhammed, etc and they all keep track of who is naughty and who is nice, and they all have magic lists keeping score. It's all about keeping score so you can go to heaven and all the people that trolled you IRL get to go to hell - complete and utter delusional infantile behavior and in no capacity should it be accepted.
To all the apologists who are thinking, "what does it hurt if they think that...", you aren't helping and most of you just don't want to be the a$$hole and just tell it like it ^^^is.
Oh, and in b4 Ironsides.

Inserting a supernatural creator into the equation makes things more complicated and we can say, probability-wise, less true, since everything we know about the world is explained through natural means. We've never demonstrated anything supernatural exists.

Only retards think the Bible actually says the earth was created 6000 years ago. That or they have a royally messed up translation.
The Bible only has a geneoligy that goes back 6000 or so years.
I am one of those people that believes that the human race has only been around that long, the earth has been around for millions upon millions of years. Animals also have been around much longer than Humans.
For me being religious does not hold be back from doing what I want and as far as I am concerned I am not hurting anyone else, far from it in that fact.
When you stop and think about it you either die believing in Evolution or you die believing in a God.
Dieing holding onto the belife in Evolution is not going to make you're life mean more than the guy in the hospital bed over who is also going to die soon who believes in a God.
:EDIT:
To all the talk about "The Big Bang" , there is no reason from a Religious point of view that says that the Big Bang and a belief in a God cant go together.
The sticking point is weather or not you believe the Big Bang came about by pure chance or that it was a controlled event caused by a Higher Power or well a God.Last edited by Vip3r; 03-23-2010 at 04:13 PM.

weak argument. Just because we don't know of something doesn't make it not there. A few hundred years ago we though the world was flat and 100 years ago we thought the universe was the milky way galaxy.
Some very legit theoretical scientists have done extensive research such as multiple dimensions etc. You are delusional if you think the universe is only what you can see.

I HATE people who use that argument. Science has theories (unlike creatism, there are proofs to science theories) on the universe origin.
Trying to make a theory out of experiments and observations with high-tech instruments >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Believing in a 2000-year-old book.
EDIT: I don't think religious people are less intelligent... maybe more naive though.Everybody lies.
