As you get older your metabolism slows down right? So people that are ecto(super-skinny) have to start watching what they eat otherwise they will put on weight. So to stay slim I just have to eat at maintenence level or below. Then why is it that the majority of people are fat(or at least a lot)? Are people just lard-asses that have no mental discipline?
edit: obv. im 17 so my metabolism wont be slowing down but im just talking in general

how many old people do you see that are as physically active as younger ones? also retiring kills whatever movement they do have. and things like arthritis, joint and other ailments like that prevent them from doing any hardcore physical activity other then low impact exercises like walking.
edit: test levels and other hormones like that decrease and make them more susceptible to weight gain.current/before may!

Young people grow so overeating is not much of a factor for them and the overeating goes to something useful.
Old people don't grow longer, testosterone levels goes down, growth hormone levels goes down. And they probably move around less as mentioned because I guess ultimately their cardiac function goes down, they broke bones more easily, things take longer time to heal and so on.
