    INTENSE "classical" music pieces

I'm getting into classical music a lot recently. I'm not sure if its actually called classical music because I'm not sure the time period is correct but everyone knows what I mean when I say classical music.

I'm looking for songs that are similar in intensity to Beethoven's 5th symphony and Orff's O Fortuna (although i greatly prefer Beethoven's 5th because of more variation and instrument work).

I'm not really a fan of a lot of modern "classical" music that they use in actions movies (i do really like "Arrival to Earth" in Transformers though). It sounds good but it just doesn't have that legendary feel that Beethoven's 5th has.

so can anyone recommend some INTENSE classical music pieces to a noob that will knock my socks off? I will certainly rep. thanks fellas

i was just watching TV....and a commercial came on about TimeLife's "Classical Power":

a 5 CD collection of the most powerful, dramatic and inspiring classical masterpieces of our time! Includes masterpieces of work by Beethoven, Tchaikovshy, Wagner, Mozart and more!

lol......quite good luck to make this thread and have that commercial come on a couple hours later.

I just saw Beethoven's 5th performed live a few nights ago. It was epic to say the least.

In any case, here's a few good ones:

this is only a part, but look up the entire Piano Concerto no. 2 by Rachmaninoff

part of "The Planets" by Holst. probably the most epic song of all time.

    some popular Mozart

    Grieg

Tchaikovsky. **** quality, but awesome song

also, if you like choral music, look up Mozart's Requiem.

Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Holst's Mars Bringer of War from The Planets Suite and Liberi Fatali from the FFVIII soundtrack all spring to mind.

    Good man!
I love most music but I keep coming back to Classical music, it's so varied and can have an emotional intensity to deeply move and uplift you.
I lot of people find it heavy and complex but once you understand the sound world there's no better music.

There's a lot of very powerful and intense works to discover, try the Shostakovitch symphonies, they are simply mind blowing!
