Jenny's Definition of Insanity (Spring OBF + Double-T log)
Hi. So yeah, this is my log.
Stuff I'm using:
-fish oil
-various brands and flavours of protein powder
-multivit for ladies
-VPX meltdown, then 4 weeks off, then Sub-Q
-white flood tabs or superpump (depending on whether I'm going to the gym directly from class)
-Fusion purple-K
-Core ABC until I get my order from bb.com, then switching to GlutaCene Elite for the contest Double-T is running through the OBF
(wow, I feel like a pharmacy)
Anyway.. Einstein said it best: insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. So far, the things I've been doing over again haven't been working out for me, so I'm turning my whole little "weight loss" world upside down. Among other things, I don't plan on calorie-counting (zomg!), just basically eating the same things throughout the day, and going for an eye-balled serving of 1 protein, 1 carb, 2 veg for dinner - and then helping myself to one of those silly 100-calorie packs as a treat. It's been going great for me in the last week, so hopefully I've caught on to something that will work for me.
Although eating's been good, today's the first day I ended up making it to the gym. I'm trying out different gyms in the area before deciding on one.. Today was GoodLife (one of the women's only ones).
I wasn't going to log my workouts in any great detail, but I discovered an awesome (so far) iPhone app that I just realized will email me my logs, which is really neat. So here was today's:

A note: the squats were actually done on a Smith Machine and no I did not squat 1lb, that's my way of saying "I squatted the bar but I have no idea how much it weighs". Then I had to run around stealing all the plates from the weight room, finally giving up at 80lbs. Also.. "treadmill running" was actually "treadmill walking".
So, there you have it.
Oh yeah, welcome to my log.

Another day, another gym.
I really liked the one I went to today, but it may be a bit out of my price range. I'm going to really have to think hard about whether it'd be worth it. Stupid sales pitches make me mad though. They're supposed to have a free 7-day trial, but I got the tour, and got told the prices, and then got the exact same line given to me as I did at goodlife: Well, you can use your free trial... but you'll pay full price if you decide to join (dun dun duuuun): if you join today, I can give you this special price, and slash the joining fee etc etc etc, blah blah blah. I talked her into giving me an extension on the "special price" until Thursday, but I can't use the free pass.
...luckily, after finding that out, I immediately went to the last gym I want to see, got the tour and a free day pass that's good for a week.
So, the plan is: going to go ice skating tomorrow, hopefully I can make a good cardio workout of it and emerge unscathed. Then, going to go to Gym #3 (or was it 4?!) Thursday after class, and decide what I want to do about membership...
Anyway, enough with that. Here's what went down today!

lol, thanks! They're neat, aren't they? They're from the iPhone app I got, called GymGoal. I just input my numbers as I'm going along, then I can email the log to myself after I'm done.
and yes, super happy about joining the gym! I feel extra motivated all of a sudden.. not sure if it's from the large chunk of money I paid, or just general excitement over something new. Whatever it is, I'll take it!!

Ok, quickish update. Great workout today, I finally got into a groove with it. The first few times, I've been sort of starting-stopping from a combination of trying to find the right equipment + fiddling with my iPhone. The app is really easy to set up a workout, but there are a lot of features I'm still discovering by fiddling. Like how to switch to a different exercise, rest timers, and other nifty things.
Today I finally figured out how to check the last weight I used on an exercise without exiting my current session and going back into the old one, for example! Which had been wasting precious time. lol. So yeah, today's strength portion of the workout ended up being 30 minutes (which is how long it's supposed to take!) instead of the 45min-1hr it's took me the first few times!
Today was just a great day in general - I got a lot accomplished and am ready to relax with bub this weekend.

ok, another quickish update. I keep forgetting to post until bedtime! Had a great workout today. Upped my cardio time today, felt really good. I've only been walking so far - working my way up to walking/jogging intervals. Eating has been good too, could always be improved though. I think what I need to work on the most is getting enough sleep. Speaking of which...

Nothing really interesting (good or bad) happened today, but for I feel funky, for no apparent reason. Just sort of anxious/on edge, and a little bit run down. Feeling like I should be upset but nothing has caused it, lol.
My guy suggested it'd because I've been off the crap food for a bit. Which, to be honest, I think maybe that's it.. cause my body was demanding pizza today! I seriously spent 30 min on google looking up different pizza places before I said nuh uh and went back to regularly scheduled programming. Got the bub to bed a bit early and I sat down to a movie which I have not done in aaaaages. I'll admit to indulging in a bag of smart pop and some diet root beer (oh noes!).
With all that being said, I still got a great workout in and ate pretty darn good - happy about killing the pizza craving. That does not usually happen, lol!
I feel a bit better now. Hopefully will feel less weird after a good night's sleep.

Been feeling really great in the gym. Today's workout was a bit odd, by the time I got to the glute machine thinger I did less reps than my last leg day... might have been the squats I did.. didn't go up much at them but I was trying to improve my form and get my butt as low as I could, lol.
I think my diet needs an overhaul though. I don't think I'm eating enough during the day, and it's killing me at dinner time. Last night I had MORE maaaassive pizza cravings, so I made little pizzas on these yummy flax pitas. Worked very well, until cravings hit again today... wtf! Pizza is on it's way...
...crap! lol

On a side note, I don't know why sometimes it shows my 1RM's and sometimes it doesn't. As much as I like this app, there are a few issues and not a very good help file, lol.

Hi Jenny,
Pizza..ugh my weakness too...I make a pizza on a small whole wheat wrap (similiar to your pita). It comes out like a cracker crust. I can usually curb the cravings that way, but the problem is I end up eating two of them there go the calorie counts...
Great workouts! Keep it up and the nutrition will fall into line.

Mmm pizza! Those pitas were surprisingly satisfying too. I made one for me and one for my son, thinking I'd end up having most of his (he normally just picks at pizza, but will eat nearly anything else). Surprisingly, he LOVED it. He is one smart cookie, that one. lol.

Love you log! My son (ossumday1) is my trainer. We are ordering a power rack in the next month and converting our garage into a gym. That is where my elliptical is now.
The roughest part (aside from LIVING with my trainer is that he is working on the opposite goal I am. He is trying to gain the weight and build his body and I am trying desparately to lose the weight and shrink my body. It gets frustrating watching him down 3000+ calories and then complain he didn't gain any weight. Obviously he didn't get MY genes
He is goood for me though and I love that he is willing to take an interest in mom's health!
Have a fabulous weekend and GOOD LUCK on Week #4!
That is awesome that your son is helping you! I hear you on the frustration, though.. but think of it this way: the more muscle you build, the more you'll be able to get away with eating! lol

I'm really happy with my workouts over the last two weeks, and my diet - while still not the greatest - is better than it has been in months. But lately I can't help feeling like I am letting other things in my life slip: my house is getting messy, I'm spending less time on school, my spending is getting a bit out of hand (I am a recovering shopaholic, lol!), etc etc, and worst of all... I feel like time with my son is suffering because I'm so distracted thinking of all the things I haven't done.
How do people juggle all these things?! It's like I am juggling all these balls, and when I try to add one, the rest come crashing down (yes cliche, lol).
I've been thinking about this a lot today. I can't just ignore some things so I can focus more on others.. it's just not possible, and it makes me feel horrible. I really need to figure out how to create a balance, so I can do everything I need to.
I guess this past semester has been a bit of a learning experience for me. It's my first time on my own with Liam (was living with my parents since he was born!), and my first semester as a full time student in a few years. I'm not doing as great in some of my classes as I'd hoped, and I can't wait until the semester is over. Then I can have a few weeks to sort everything out and start next semester on a better foot. It didn't help that the first few weeks of this one were spent trying to find daycare, finding out the closest one was a 1hr long bus ride away, and then frantically trying to buy a car, lol.
Aaaanyway, sorry for the lack of updates! Here is my workout from Friday:

and here is my long-ass cardio workout from yesterday (Saturday). It was my first time trying GlutaCene, as well! I tried the Wild Berry flavour. I can't say I was super impressed with the taste at first.. it was a bit mediciny! but through the workout it started to go away, and I am thinking that it's something I'll have to get "used" to (which is what has happened for me with previous intraworkout supps). I didn't feel any different either, but I did get through a 90 min cardio session, so maybe that speaks for itself! Can't wait to try it tomorrow during my strength training.

I read your post about trying to balance everything out with school and trying to be a Mom and wow, did it ever bring back memories. I was in the same position you were many years ago. I decided to go back to collage when my daughter was 9 months old. Then i got a part time job 4 nights a week to help support myself and my daughter. Dad was a dead beat. One of the hardest times back then was when someone stole my vehicle. I was so distraught, i didn't know what i was going to do. There was no way i could get drop my daughter off, get to school, pick her up, take her to another sitters, and then go to work for the night. That was really hard, but i was lucky enough that my story got in the paper and the people of my city did some amazing things to help me out, including giving me a truck.
From my experience, things will always work out how they're suppose to, especially when a person puts a lot of effort into their goals, and you seem like that kind of person. Sounds like your son has everything he needs. Shelter, food in his belly, and from what i've read, a very loving Mother. I would also bet the rest of your family loves him to tears. Those are good things for a child to have.
It's not easy to balance school, being a mom, and then all those other things life likes to throw at you. Honestly, you may always feel like your not doing enough to balance it all but in reality, that's exactly what you're doing. You're doing everything you can and you're probably doing a fine job at that.
edit...sorry if this is to deep or philosophical. lol
