Food "Porn"
So as I was going to town on the elliptical tonight at the gym I was blessed with a marathon of Man vs. Food...which could be my most favorite of all food shows. Seriously, I got to watch Adam eat chocolate chip/banana crepes, huge ice cream sundaes with espresso on top, waffles that looked like bday cake, big juicy sandwiches, philly cheese steaks, big burritos, chicken wings, etc. I particularly enjoyed all of the sweets and breakfast foods.
It entranced me and I couldn't keep my eyes off the t.v! It was simply amazing. I also got to see this wonderful looking cream cheese thing with cookie and fruit in the middle. I couldn't get enough of it. I felt addicted to the show and I just happen to get lucky when it kept having more and more episodes!
Of course it was fun to imagine eating all of that while burning loads of calories and I can't imagine actually having a breakfast that would set me back 5000 calories but it sure is nice to day dream about it

The cardio machines in my gym are upstairs, looking down over the rest of the gym...and right above the cafe! The delicious aroma of toasted paninis, fresh fruit, cinnamon etc is absolute torture!

Ok. Im gonna say it.
That dude disgusts me. Hes so morbidly obese and hes GREEDY when he eats. I cant stand it. I like the show but his lack of care for his health bothers me tremendously. Like I dont mind watching Diners Drive Ins and Dives even though Guy is overweight ( but not like Man v. Food dude) but hes just not as glutonous I guess : ) idk, just my opinion.

^^^^^ This! I know what you mean. I enjoy the show, but it's like watching a heart attack in the making. It scares me to think what he's doing to himself. Plus, it boggles my mind why all of these restaurants would offer such ridiculous challenges. Eat 10 times what a normal human being would, and you get a t-shirt!! Yay! What?

I have always just wondered what he does after the challenges...like how many days until he eats again? He can't be hungry for a few days after eating 5 lbs of food right?
I really do enjoy watching it and obviously it is disgusting but I think that is partly what makes it fun....more than the challenges is just getting to see all the cool places in the country that are ma and pap shops making awesome food that people love and staying in business.

omg yes, my gym is right below a restaurant (a restaurant I also happen to like!) and when they have wing Wednesday, I can smell the hot sauce wafting down. So cruel!
And I do enjoy the show because I like the travel and food aspect of it when he's eating more normal portions of food, but during some of the actual "challenges" I do have to change the channel because it tends to gross me out.

I've never even heard of this show! But I am intrigued... I don't mind watching Food Network when I work out - though sometimes when I'm drooling over something totally terrible I catch myself like "How could you even think about that as you're gasping for breath here?!?!" What kills me is at my gym there is a TV in the locker room and the cleaning staff always watch food network on it. So after your workout when you're famished and cursing your protein shake - you can hear Iron Chef in the background deep frying..GRR

I love watching the later cake shows - the dessert challenges are really neat too. And I know itd all be too sweet for me to want so its okay Except the Chocolate ones - i die on those lol
-
F*ck me? F*ck you!
Ha! What a catchy title btw. Caught my attention like wth?!
So the last thing I want to see is a man taking on challenges to BECOME obese by eating loads of artery clogging foods. OK so the dessert shows catch my attention but I quickly change the station bc then it'll just make me hungry. They usually show ice cream or some other dairy product and I'm sadly lactose intolerant. So instead I find myself watching "silent library" as I practically fall off the eliptical because I'm laughing out loud, looking around to see if anyone saw me. If all else fails, "millionare matchmaker" will suffice.
But damn those pastries!

A great "food porn" show if you're looking for something a little less gluttonous is "Gordon Ramsay's The F Word". I LOVE that show...you can see it in the U.S. on BBC America. The whole premise of the show is about getting people into the kitchen and cooking fresh, usually relatively healthy, meals and knowing where your food comes from, etc. That show always inspires me to cook and try new recipes and if you're used to "Kitchen Nightmares" Gordon, this is a much more laid back side of him, haha.

I wish I could be at the gym all the time to see all these other shows you guys talk about! We don't have t.v at home so it is a treat to watch it at the gym! lol
I too enjoy the dessert shows. Can you imagine being able to eat all that stuff and not worry about it? I wish it was all calorie free!
In general I love Julia Child and Jacque Pepin--they are so hilarious and cook awesome stuff. Of course they cook with a lot of butter but it is still fun to watch, they are so talented. And Julia is so entertaining. I like to take what they make and think about how to make it healthier....so fun.

Forgive me for this but is the Man Vs. Food guy really morbidly obese? When i think of morbidly obese i picture all those people who can barely walk they are so large. Its surprising to me that he is not bigger than he is. I mean I know he is unhealthy and overweight but I see bigger than him just at the university I attend. This isn't tv food porn but I like looking at pictures of food online especially at foodgawker.com Everything on this site looks awesome and even beautiful in some cases lol.

I would agree. I don't think he is "morbidly" obese, I think he is your standard out of shape pizza and chicken wing guy. The typical guy you would see these days that drinks too much beer and eats too much fried crap. There are a lot of way fatter people out there. Of course, he can't be that healthy considering what he does, but we don't know how he eats when not on the show which has to be actually pretty healthy or he would weight 400lbs....so the way I see it he has a great job getting to travel and eat fun foods while making loads of money.....if he can sleep at night being flabby then that is all that matters

One of the tvs in the gym is always set to food network so ,OP I don't think you're alone. I can not even watch food network without wanting to eat! The worst show on there is the show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" ughhhh and even if you wanted what they are eating most of the the time it's at a restaurant allll the way across the country. And I can not STAND that paula dean lady! Annoying and why must everything be fried or have butter, lard or cream in it?

i love the best thing i ever ate! it's one of my faves. so w/ you on paula dean!! she annoys the crap out of me, but still a teeny bit less than at home w/ the neelys (really dislike them), although the butter /cream/frying thing is just out of control.
as for man v food, i love it. i love adam and how he describes the foods - like the different textures and flavors he tastes. the challenges are absurd, and it clearly doesn't take much for americans to partake in them - all they ever get it their name on the wall or a free t-shirt. so that part is sad. but i totally love the show. top chef is another one of my faves.

I heard the Neely's aren't really a couple! I find them annoying.

It sounds like I am missing out on some pretty awesome shows!
Agreed on Paula Deen, totally southern home cooking and I am from the North so that is a no go for me I do enjoy watching though, cooking is such an art!
I really want Adam to come and do a MN State Fair Food episode and just walk around and eat everything we have fried on a stick which is probably at least 100 things...and then of course all the other staples of our fair which are big buckets of right out of the oven Martha's Chocolate Chip cookies w/free milk and big things of french fries that are freshest of the fresh. Now, I go to the fair and have like 1 turkey leg grilled and 1 beer all day.... but in my teenage years I used to go and my dad would always buy me and my sister a big thing of fries and then later on we would get bucket of cookies and free milk. What a tradition

Just out of curiousity??? How in all of America do you not have a TV? Totally missing out but then again if you watched them at home you might want to scarf down a box of cookies I also like "Unwrapped."

I must be in the rarity. I'm not interested in cooking shows on tv, and I have never seen a single episode of any of the ones mentioned in here. I don't care to torture myself that way.
