It depends on your overall goals.....

For strength, id do a 5,4,3,2,1 finishing off with your max.

    My max is probably 320-335lb and I normally rep 275-305lbs. 275 x 6-8 295-305 3-5 reps.

How are you suppose to do 5%-10% more than your 1 rep MAX..? Plus trying to do a weight that you know is probably too heavy for you is a good way to throw out your back.

Your max is your max for a reason. Attempting more than your max pretty much guarantees incorrect form, or else that weight would be your max.

    Depends how you define max??

My criteria for a max deadlift consist of this:

    1. Feet remain flat
    2. Back remains straight
    3. No hitching ( legs come to a complete lock and remain locked )
    4. Complete lockout
    5. 3 second hold.

I can hit 495, but not to this criteria so...its not a max.
