    dual mass flywheel symptoms (serious)

my car is a TDCI ford

on startup it is getting harder and harder to start in the morning, when it starts up it makes a horrible noise for half a second and the engine shakes, but its only as it starts up, as soon as it reaches idle its fine

when i put my foot down it hesitates quite a bit

my mechanic said the dual mass flywheel needs replacing, and the hesitating is because the camshaft sensor is mounted on the flywheel, is this the correct reason as to the hesitation? my car doesent make any other noises, he said it will last another 2 month so maybe this is the beginning

    How many miles?

Dualmass flywheels are a whore to resurface, most likely you will need a new one and they are generally expensive.

I have never related a hesitation issue to a bad flywheel, what car model?

They usually sound like marbles in a can when they go bad. He's full of **** about the sensor being on the flywheel. The cam is in the head. Maybe he meant crank angle sensor? Even then a sensor needs a wire attached to it, and the flywheel is spinning. The way the engine is running sounds more like problems with sensors than the flywheel.

Just like a Dr., go to another mechanic to have it checked out to see if they say the same thing.

okie dokie pal i will indeed do that

its the focus tdci, i read somewhere that problems starting and hesitating eventually linked to the DMF, and at the moment it doesent make any noise after startup its literally just as im starting up

its hard starting in the morning because fragments of the DMF start to clog the starter motor it says on the internet

i just dont know how else to check if it is the DMF, when i slowly increase revs, at about 1500 it starts to vibrate a bit through the car until 2000 where it smooths out?

'A good check to do is to remove the crank sensor. It has a magnet on the end that picks up all the small bits of metal from the flywheel or starter that break off. If you take it out and it's all 'furry' then it's a sure sign one or the other is 'naffed'

    maybe thats why then

Crank sensor reads off the flywheel. No a flywheel wouldn't cause hesitation, sounds more like a mass air flow sensor to me. Once it reaches idle it's fine? As in warms up? Maybe a vacuum leak somewhere too. Bring it to another mechanic.

i mean once the engine reaches idle the loud rattle sort of noise stops, which is literally like half a second, its a noticeable loud starting noise

i know but if the crank sensor is getting metal bits attracted to it or the flywheel is disintegrating it could be getting mixed signals etc?
