I can make an argument to support that.

Atheist: This person just saved a person from dying.

Why: He believes that the world is full of suffering and that his good deed is an example to others. Also, by saving the person he has improved the lives of the person's family as they would suffer in their short lives and then die.

Religious: This person just saved a person from dying.

Why: He believes that he is serving god and protecting his creations. He hopes that god will smile on him for his deed and bless the family with faith and whatnot as they see that it was god's will that their relative be saved.

So, the end result in both cases is good, but the atheist has a ethically superior motive for saving the person, because it's not based on a fantasy (seemingly) and is based on wanting to help for it's own sake.
