Question Whey Protein on rest days?

So im pretty new to working out and all this stuff in general, but Iv done a fair amount of research to do it in the most effective and healthy way.

So I understand that I should be consuming 1g of protein per lean pound of body mass, plus 30-40g more than that since I wanna bulk (correct me if I'm wrong). So that puts me at about 180g of protein a day.

I find it very hard to consume this on my rest days, that is if I am even suppose to be consuming that much on days I dont workout. So is it okay to take whey protein on my rest days?

Whey is just food. Its not some sort of magic muscle producing super drug. We might call protein powders "supplements", but they're really just food. Think of it this way. Replace the word protein powder with chicken breast. Would you every consider writing and posting the question "Should I eat chicken breast on the days I don't work out?"
Weight lifting, Running and Athletics changed my life. I went form being a 260lb13 year old who couldn't run a quarter mile to a 210lb 18 year old who through hard work and devotion managed to become a conference champion shot putter, an all conference football player, and a State Champion rugby player.

I am now a 190lb 20 year old college student, and no less devoted to lifting hard and eating smart in an effort to become stronger and healthier. Even if it means lifting at 7am before class.

In addition to the above...outside of using whey in the morning and around workouts, using a protein blend or casein based protein is a better idea as the slower digestion rates will help maintain an anabolic state.

You can take it on rest days, why short yourself on nutrients when your body is trying to recover

    is it necessary? no.

just make sure you get your daily requirements, whether that be through food or your whey.
