Just thought i'd ask here, what yall use.
Unless I can test or see any issues my flat recommendation is 531. As long as followed EXACTLY as Wendler lays out (eg % and maxes). Or plugged into WSFSB.

To OP great idea for thread!
I was watching NBA action and saw that some professionals have bowls of rice and scrunch up fingers to strengthen fingers and forearms, does anyone have any experience with this?

Planning on elevating my training next week (march break).
skills wise im really good, shooting, dribbling etc.
My biggest problem is being scared and nervous in game. Hell i even get nervous and scared during pickup games and practices. This leads to me not being to play to my full potential.
Also I need to work on my speed and reaction time. They are not bad, but for a guy my size to be able to compete at a high level like college, these 2 need to be up quick.
I think those 3 are the biggest issues in my game. I love basketball and I want to play it at the college level.
also finally in terms of weightlifing, i been doing a WSFSB2 routine that i altered a bit to fit me.
was wondering, as a basketball, should i be going really heavy all the time??? what rep range would i benefit most?
ive seen videos on pro ball players or some US HS teams that are good and they dont go that heavy. It seems to me ball players usually focus more on power and strict form, long range of motion?
my stats are probably something like this:
bench: my best was 165x5. Im guessing my max is anywhere from 185-200.
Squat: I do 245x6 legit form.
Deadlift is weak as **** longer than my squat cause my grip strength blows.

from what i here, off season is 3 days of lifting, but with lots of power cleans and deadlifts. it also alternates strength and strength conditioning. also comes with in season templates.

I think it is a good routine for speed, strength, and explosiveness. I like lower rep volumes personally as I have gotten the most progress out of them when it comes to the main lifts. With plyo's and what not I shoot for med-high reps with light weight to work on my explosiveness.

Everyone has their preferences and not one system works for everyone. I know some D1 athletes who are big as houses that go very light, don't care too much on form, but work for explosiveness and others who are exactly the opposite. With that said, I would always try to maintain proper form to prevent any type of injury.

Nothing to complain about there. A lot of the best HS athletes I have seen don't like to work out aside from bi's and chest haha. Keep working at it, I didn't realize how important strength/speed was compared to given talent until it was too late.

I'm coaching a youth basketball team. 8th graders. It's a competitive team and they're pretty advanced. I've coached them in past years and they've done well. But this year another coach coached them and they are in disarray. I'm coaching them just in a short league that goes this month. The last coach played a lazy, pack-it-in zone. I had them play man to man and we got our asses handed to us in the first game. I have a two hour practice tonight to get them ready for two games on the weekend and I plan to spend the whole time practicing man to man fundamentals. how to handle screens, where to force dribblers, how to help, how to rotate to help the helper, how to avoid getting back doored, how to put pressure on the ball, etc. I have some drills in mind, but do you have any specific drills to help implement this?

Props to you for teaching them M2M, most coaches don't want to deal with it at that age. I like to work on a 4 on 4 1/2 court shell. The offense is stagnant, 2 people in the corners and 2 people on the wings. Soft on-ball defense to allow them to pass the ball around; defense works in sprinting into help position. One pass away must deny, two passes away must be in help. No sliding to your spots, they must turn and sprint.
With handling screens I usually just talk them over it, rather than spending too much time on it on the court. If you like them to go under the screens it may be best at that level because they won't pull up for 3's like they would in HS/College; making communication between the man being screened and the screener's man crucial. Run through all the screens: slips, pick and roll, side p&r, middle p&r, two guards screening for each other (switch), etc.
Putting pressure on the ball is the most important aspect in the game, IMO. I like to work on side lunges and moving laterally as fast as possible. I like to have them play in a stance that when an arm is reached out they can't reach the ballhandler's body, but can touch the ball if he looks to pass/shoot. One hand should be extended at all times not allowing the guy to crossover in front of the man. Focusing on the last point, my team picked up 3-4 extra steals a game by not letting the team cross over.
Hope this helps.

With weights I liked to do jump squats, helped big time. I liked doing split squat jumps, one-legged jumps, reaction jumps (fall off a bench that is about knee high and when you land, jump for height), jump as high as you can as many times as you can for 'x' reps. All this was to improve my vertical, but increased my speed/agility.

2. What do you think how long will it take to dunk?
I started touching the rim and after 4 weeks increased my vertical by
6-7cm. But now its getting really hard beacause at this point i recognized you have to fight for every inch
Calves/Upper body strength make up about 20% of your vertical jump power. So take that as you will. Strengthening your calves will help, but not nearly as much as hamstring or glute strength.
As far as dunking, I would say you're a third the way there (depending on genes) because like you said it does get harder to add flight. Let me know if you need anything else.

As long as it's low, I wouldn't say it's bad, but I wouldn't suggest raising the box. Although box drops seem very easy and harmless, they are not if you don't do it properly.
If you want to add some basic harmless plyos, add in squat jumps, and lunge jumps. Those should do you just fine.

Yeah man, one of my favorite sections for sure. Considering this will be my career field, I want to help out here as much as I can. For basketball players I encourage them to train the way football players do; definitely increased their physicality and explosiveness.
And.. thank you

I don't know the things you've heard, but they are probably true. They are members of IGRAB (funny name, I-GRAB). If you don't know what that is, google will tell you. If that's something you're uncomfortable with, they aren't the team for you.
If you want to learn to play rugby and be on a competitve team, the Old Aztecs are a quality club.
Besides, no male sports team should have a name that doesn't end in "S", except maybe for the Sox.

"United", "Storm", "Galaxy" all sound like a bunch of poofters. If I'm playing against a team like The Storm, I'm going to laugh at them. If I'm playing against a team with a manly name like the Bears, Sharks, Lumberjacks, Bombers, or Axe Murderers, I'm going to have a bit of respect for them.
Then again, most soccer teams are a bunch of poofters, so that explains that.

make sure you choose League not union. Thats if you consider your self an athlete and an animal. League you need to be fitter and due to there always been at least a 10metre gap and less rules on tackling, HUGE hits and collisions. Fun Fun

League's for nutjobs(seriously) I personally prefer union for many reasons. More fun and less brain damage being amongst them.
Friendship b/w women:
A woman doesn't come home one night. The next day she tells her husband she slept over at a girlfriend's place. Her husband calls 10 of her best friends. None know anything about it.
Friendship b/w men:
A man doesn't come home one night. The next day he tells his wife he slept over at a friend's place. His wife calls 10 of the husband's best friends. 8 of them confirm he slept over, the other 2 claim he's still there.

But it's just so repetitive.
Get ball, run, get tackled, wiggle like a fish out of water, join line, tackle, push guys face in dirt, join line, get ball, run......

And this is the amazing thing about rugby in the UK.
Rugby is almost a middle class sport in England, but is the working class sport of Wales. League gets more popular the further you go north in England, but in Scotland they prefer Union
