I am not a big fan at all of ankle weights as they are constantly pulling away at your joints especially your knees. As young as you are I really wouldn't use them as there are plenty of other ways to obtain speed without using ankles weithts. Weighted vests and sprinting sleds, along with bungies really are good with out the same stress on the joints. Do some searches on here for for speed and sprinting and you will get a lot of good information on things you can do and try. Good luck man!

^ agree
not a big fan either! just work on the strength of ur legs!
(not ment as scientific but..)think about what it takes to run...ur leg has to push the body upward and out, not lift the leg up. right? so ankle weights wouldnt be best to make u run faster!
ankle weights are not a good alternative to squatting!-------------------------------www.Texas-AP.com--------------------------------------

ur 15!
get in the weight room and lift!!!!
no sled, no chutes, no vests!
just good ol weights!
1.) get strong and when the weights get too light add more,
2.)do some pylos, and when plyos are too easy then do em faster
- thats the key to success!
dont waste ur money bro!-------------------------------www.Texas-AP.com--------------------------------------

Walking around in them isn't a bad way to strengthen the hip flexors (running is a no-no), that said, if you want bang for your buck sled/vest > ankle weights

I walked around in a very light pair (2.5 lbs each) early on in hs. When I was doing this I always felt very light and fast when I took them off before practice. I would never ever run around in them but walking around in them so long as they are pretty light like <3lbs cannot hurt imo. Plus when they are that small they fit under your pants perfectly nobody even knows you are wearing them. Even if you dont actually gain any speed form this you definitely feel lighter, so if nothign else its a mental edge.

You should invest in getting your ass outside and start sprinting, getting in the weight room, improving flexibility, and learning how to properly run. You don't need any gadgets to become faster. I improved my 40 time, by 1.2 seconds and would you like to guess the number of gadgets I used........ I'll give you a hint, it's in between -1 and 1.
You need to start reading instead of looking for hand outs on basic information. I understand needing advice on the more technical things, but this stuff can be easily answered by using the search function on here. These topics have been covered 100 times now, and the philosophy hasn't changed. Kind of makes me want to be a smart ass sometimes when the constant question is asked of "how do I get faster." My reply would be.. "Well, you move from point A to Point B at an increased rate."
Not trying to knock on you, but actually learning these things will help you more than if someone spoon feeds you the information.Last edited by Fullback7; 03-10-2010 at 11:08 AM.

no
and
no
ironically enough, sprinting will make your sprinting faster.
and yes, hammies play a huge role in running but it's a stretch to say that they are the most important, especially in sprinting. in long distance running they play a much bigger role.
do sprints, squats, and lunges. don't waste you money on other things like ankle weights, vest chutes, or whatever.
