"Runaway Toyota Prius Stopped On I8 By CHP Patrol Car"

A Toyota Prius, which was apparently speeding out of control due to a stuck accelerator, had to be stopped by a California Highway Patrol vehicle Monday, according to a CHP official spokesperson.

The car, which was traveling eastbound on Interstate 8, was reportedly stopped by the patrol car, which drove in front of the runaway hybrid, and engaged it's brakes. The CHP was in communication with the male driver, who was traveling at about 90 miles per hour eastbound on I8.

Radio traffic indicated the driver was unable to turn off the engine or shift the car into neutral.

How the **** is it possible to

a. not be able to shut off the car

AND

b. not be able to shift into neutral which doesn't require touching the brake

AND

c. not be able to slowly apply the e-brake to slow down

???

Its a prius, they only go 20 mph so even with a stuck accellerator you can just open the door and step out.

Its a prius, they only go 20 mph so even with a stuck accellerator you can just open the door and step out.
