    Beta Alanine questions

There are several studies showing how beta alanine improves endurance, my question is, do these endurance improvements stick around if you stop taking it, or do you need to continue use to keep the improvement?

If it does result in permanent gains, what are peoples opinions as to dosing it?

None of the supplements I'll be taking for the next couple months have any beta alanine in them, so I was going to look into purchasing some bulk powder and experimenting with it.

I for some reason remember someone saying beta alanine is similar to creatine in that after muscle saturation, it will take a week or two for your muscles to be depleted. If that is the case, then its performance is also likely similar to creatine in that its effects are most prominent after a few weeks of supplementation.

It actually takes a lot longer for carnosine concentrations to decrease if you are deemed a moderate to higher responder.

H+ buffering and calcium sensitizing capacity would decrease along with it.

True, it does take a couple weeks for it start being saturated and increase carnosine levels. As to how much to take, 3-6g/day is good. Split up between 2 doses generally.

Does Beta-Alanine require a component like sugar (for creatine) to aid in getting it in your system? Or can you mix it with water and drink it straight?

    Thanks!

Beta-alanine, nor creatine require sugar to "get it into your system."

Just as with creatine, transport of BA into muscle depends upon a beta-amino transport protein that is sodium and chloride dependant. Insulin nor carbs are not necessary. But as with creatine during the early stages of use, there was one study that used a large amount of carbs and it did help with accumulation. There really is no good reason to plow down a ton of carbs.
