I will be graduating in December with a BA in communication and I would love to get a summer internship (paid or unpaid) in marketing for a supplement company. I have great professional references, a 3.46 GPA in my major and a resume ready but I'm not sure about the best way to approach this.
Reps and gratitude to anyone that can help! Thanks!

I have, and I will continue to, but I want to ensure that I explore every possible option.
Edit: Haha, I wasn't sure if he was giving advice or implying that I am attempting to do a bit of brown-nosing. Honestly, I am proud of the work I have put in over the past few semesters as an independent college student and I am confident that I would be an asset to any company. That is why I want to get a head-start on my career. If you rep me because I make a good post, I will rep you back for using the rep system as it should be used.

Ya, you basically have 2 options. Contact supplement companies directly, they should have some sort of human resources number to call or e-mail. Or, you can do it the old fashioned way, show up to the boss' office and get [down] to work.

If you want to have a profitable career, don’t do your internship with a supplement company. Look at somebody like Time Warner, “TW is close to you and they have a program for marketing internships”, the supplement industry is not known outside of the people that use supplements. If a hiring manager looks at a resume and sees John Doe did an internship for Supplement B company and the Jane Doe interned for NIKE who do you think will get the job. It is an internship, don't be afriad to go big and go for a well known company throughout the mass population.

Getting an internship in the field of work you're looking to join is better than getting an internship at a random "big" company. Companies like experience in their field of work, much more so than experience in a different field of work.

If this is all you want out of your education, than hey more power too you, but if you want to make the big bucks you go after the big fishies.
There is no money in the supplement industry unless you are the top dog or near the top of the food chain. The supplement industry maybe stable, but the companies themselves are not and already have there key marketing folks in place.
It is fun to dream about working in the field you enjoy, but realistically your chances making anything above average as a marketing engineer, specialist or admin within the supplment industry is slim to known, unless you look at a very large company.
The reps may say different, but do you really think a company like Muscle Tech or Gaspari is going to take a second look at a resume that says I interned for GX Supplements and the next resume interned with the Marketing Department for Apple or NIKE.Fat Man Typing

I'm talking about an un-paid intership for one of the bigger supplement companies that leads to a paid position. With a useful degree and a great attitude plus willingness to learn you can go far with an un-paid intership. Companies do promote from within and many top guys have gotten their promotions from starting in the basement. If it was a choice between a relatively small company and Nike, i would choose Nike. If it was a choice between one of the top 3-5 supplement companies (in revenue) and Nike i would choose the supp company.

You may not realize it, but the vast majority of supplement companies are quite small. Many don't even employ a marketing department, and simply have a single person performing all of the marketing duties, or even the owner filling that role.

This, and...
...this.
Although I don't have any formal experience with marketing, I do have some experience with sales. I am passionate about fitness and I hold a great interest in the supplement industry. Additionally, I think it would be a great learning experience. You've gotta start somewhere. It would be awesome to make tons of money, but they say if you find a job you love, you will never work a day in your life. Its something I believe in.If you rep me because I make a good post, I will rep you back for using the rep system as it should be used.
