Hip problem after Hiit on treadmill
I must have done something wrong... I have asthma and have shied away from doing Hiit because it's exercise induced. But I've been training for months so I thought I would give it a try. My lungs did fine, but my (R) hip became excruciating 1/2 way through. And I should have stopped. But I was like, "this is supposed to be hard".. I know.. I know.. was in so much pain after that I couldn't make my night shift. And had to take some major (prescribed for this) pain killers after. This condition is pre-existing and pops up occasionally during the year. Sometimes from seeming "overuse" and sometimes it's unexplained and very random. I didn't do legs last week due to my hip still hurting badly. Even assisted pullups caused enough pain for me to stop -this time. I was taking long-ish strides, would that do it? I loved Hiit and am sorely (pun intended) dissapointed that I am unable to right now. Anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

I would go see a chiropractor. My first experience with one had to do with a hip issue. I was running (this was 5+ years ago...LOL), misjudged the depth of a wide hole in the ground and landed with my leg kinda locked. For about 3 months, I'd go through it starting to feel better over the week without running and then I'd try to run again and be limping around for a couple of days. Finally someone noticed I was walking with my foot out to the side and told me a chiro could probably fix that. It took 3 adjustments over the course of a week and I haven't had issues with it since.

Go to a doctor, seriously. Or better yet a sports-medicine specialist.
Hip issues are painful and bizarrely debilitating. I've had bursitis in my hip and strained a hip flexor (this was the worst! I couldn't get into my car!)
Go and get it checked out, no matter what it is.

I do walk like that. I had seen a chiro, but while I was pregnant and I'd get adjusted and would be "out" again in a couple hours. I was born being able to rotate my leg almost 180. Then I fell and pulled my groin, ironically the (R) leg again. I'm going to make an appointment right now. I've tried to get help with this from doctors and yeah, shot in the *ss; here's some pain killers. Go home. Thanks for answering so quickly... I was starting to think I was the only one with hip issues.... LoL I've talked to people and no one understands what I'm talking about. I'm getting desperate. I'm scared to do almost any cardio because of it. It can throw me out for days, weeks or even a month!
Sports-medicine specialist? I'll have to look in the phonebook, or talk to my doctor, if I can make her take me seriously... Thank-you!!!

180 degrees...Wow. Your condition will probably take more regular (preventive) care than mine. My chiro just told me "You'll know when I need to come in." LOL
I have scoliosis with an s-curve toward the bottom so one hip sits up higher than the other and one leg is a bit shorter than the other. I'm also not very flexible through my posterior chain so I'm surprised I don't have more hip issues because lifting can feel a little wonky sometimes. My low back can be tricky. Toward my upper back, my spine looks like it is twisted like a rope in x-rays causing one shoulder to roll forward a lot more than the other. I go in for upper back/shoulder issues more often. My right SHOULDER through over the clavical and scapula is what will spaz out sometimes for no reason. I've found that if something weird happens while I'm just sitting there (the muscle will "jump" or "twitch" and I'll suddenly be in pain...it's weird!), I normally just need to let the "injury" resolve itself. If I think I CAUSED (whatever) to happen, depending on how serious it is, I'll give it a day or two to make sure it won't fix itself and then go ahead and make an appointment for an adjustment. A lot of the time when it's a bigger issue it will start to hurt enough over the next couple of days that it keeps me awake at night so that's how I know to go in.
Hope you find treatment from SOMEWHERE that makes it so you don't feel so limited!

I have two spots on my spine (one mid back and one just above my coccyx) that are extrememly painful to the touch and can be "noticed" from palpating. I also have a spot just above mid back that curves out to the left, again my husband knows where the spot is by feeling along my spine. I had x-rays done 3 months ago and have yet to get my, "well call you as soon as we get results" phone call. Thanks again. I know it's not all in my head, but it's still nice to get some form of validation... Limited. Truer words never spoken... I hate feeling weak. LoL...

Definitely see your doc first, but also remember that you don't need to do HIIT on a treadmill. Maybe something with less impact (I'm thinking rowing machine or ergometer/hand crank) would work better for you. Depending on the hip issue, perhaps even a stationary upright or recumbent bike.

I never thought of doing it on a rowing machine! I've just had it stuck in my head: Cardio/Hitt = leg work. Same principle though right? We have a rowing attachment on a cable machine... I'd have to time it so that I'm not doing it immediately following a back day right? Or am I confusing a rowing machine with something else? I did just finish a stretch of night shifts... my brain ain't up to par yet. I tried a spinning class. But my tailbone was broken with my first child and my tailbone just can't handle it... they do have a hand crank since it also has a Rehab center connected to the gym. I just really wanna GO! I know I'm whining, but I just want to stomp my feet and scream a little. :S I'm starting to feel better than I have since before I had kids (3 years) and I'm restless... lmao

A rowing machine:

It will use your arms, legs and back but from a seated position so may be less jarring on your hip. The hand crank will definitely get your heart rate up.

I can get my heart rate MUCH MUCH higher on the rowing machine than running. Google concept2 or "indoor rowing sprints" to see what sprinting on an erg looks like.

Yikes...I don't have anything like that going on. You can see the curves but there's nothing unusual to the touch and it doesn't hurt to be touched anywhere on a normal day. I hope you get some answers soon!

Thank-you ladies... I appreciate all the advice. I have more information to go back to my doctor with and now am actually not even going back to her, I'm going to check out a sports medicine specialist (but I think I'll need a referral though). I can't wait to get started and maybe... someday... be able to do more Hiit (on the treadmill) because I really actually enjoyed the part that wasn't excrutiating pain. lmfao
