Anyway, the field at the ATT Pebble Beach looks pretty stacked. Tiger and Phil both coming off wins. Hopefully it's a good Sunday shootout

Resident equipment/shoe whore in the market for a new driver.
This years contenders are
Callaway Razr Fit Xtreme
Ping Anser
Titleist 913
and of you lower hcp's use any of these yet? I'll get my fitting done on the shaft obviously just like to hear feedback on the heads.

I'm currently a 3.9 index so I'm not the greatest but I've played all three. On looks I would give the Anser the nod. I have not hit the Anser on a launch monitor though. I did crush a few drives with it while playing 18 holes that made me a believer in it though.
I have hit the 913 and the Xtreme on a launch monitor using the same shaft. A Motore Speeder 7.2 TS X. I hit the Xtreme 12 yards further on average. For me the 913 went an average distance of 296 yards with the longest being 308 yards. The Xtreme was on average 308 yards with the longest being 318 yards. That includes roll.
As far as spin goes the average spin rate of the Xtreme was 1980. The average spin of the 913 was 2300 for me.
For what it's worth I hit less than 10 balls with each driver on the launch monitor.
Edit: after looking at the data on my spreadsheet some more the spin numbers are misleading because I do have a drive with 1500 spin with the Cally. If I remove that I have about 100-150 less spin with the Cally.Last edited by Tread0123; 02-06-2013 at 11:02 PM.

Thanks, thats exactly what I was looking for. I'll give you 2 and 2 at 3.9 . I am steering clear of the Taylor's this year because I HATE the graphics on the R1 and I know from already hitting it I'm long and wild as hell with the RocketBallz. Right now I'm thinking Anser but obviously a lot depends on the shaft I get put in it. This will take some time before I buy one, but just getting it in motion now. Even after I buy one I won't put it into play for a few weeks until I am comfortable with it on the range.

Re-gripping my golf clubs. Just stripped off the old grips/tape... damn I put some major dents in these steel shafts where the grips are (I tend to hit things with my clubs... a lot). Nothing bending the shafts, but not pretty.
I play without a 3-iron because I bent the shaft lol... then I realized I didn't have a need for it. I can choke down on a 2-iron just fine.

Anyone have good info on new drivers right now? I haven't taken the game seriously (or even played that much) in quite some time (finally going to get back into competition). Gonna keep all my clubs (PING i3's ftw) but I know the tech advances for drivers have been huge over the last 5 years. I'm still playing a Titleist 975 L-FE, which I love, but I know I could get another 15-20 yards with something new. Low handicap, very very high clubhead speed, play a controlled fade (well... I try to control it). Don't need anything I can work, just want it to be long and straight.

Went to the range and hit my new 3 hybrid. To be honest it feels the same as my 3 wood but I get a higher loft because 3w is 15 and hybrid is 21*. I was hitting it about 250 with a fade it draw depending on the swing. I could hit my 3w about 260-265 and then smashed my driver about 300 on average with a 5-10 yard draw.
Focused a lot on hitting my hybrid out of different positions in divots and grass and elevation to see how much smoother it is and I must say its nice. I don't have to swing as hard and I can slightly dig like an iron which I like too.Georgia Bulldogs/Orlando Magic/Miami Dolphins/UCF Knights/BoSox

I get a new driver every 18 months or so usually skip a model year if I have one I really like. But even in doing that I can see the advances made every time I get a new driver. Forgiveness, workability being the two I look for most. I'll play any of the 9 shots depending on the hole and where I need to be on approach. Right now I'm leaning towards the Ping Anser but I'll check out the 913's as well. Most recent Golf Digest did a pretty good job reviewing the clubs for this year.

It is pretty much impossible to give you ideas because a driver should be fitted to the individual not you adjusting to the driver. You need to go to a range or a fitting with multiple brands and models. Try 7,9,10.5 degree drivers then pick a degree and the. Try different brands figuring out which one fits your swing plane best and gets you the most accuracy and distance. When you narrow brand and degree work on the shaft differences; play aroun with the different weights in shafts to figure out what lets you swing easier but still get the same distance. Then you can adjust the weights or face angles to see if that will change things for you too.

Played a city course yesterday with 2 buddies. One friend is lucky to break 100 so we played the white tees with him. I posted a 73, +3 with 32 putts, 11/18 greens and 5 fairways :/ Was spraying the driver everywhere but the course has almost no water/OB, rough was non existent so I was hitting driving PW into all the par 4's. Hit the irons extremely well which is very promising considering I've played 3 rounds with my new irons, the 08 taylor made rac TP's.

2nd shot from 140 yards out, 10 feet lower than the hole. I promptly two-putted it, but was very happy with the approach.
The greens were soft as hell. Almost walking on mud out there.
