    Bowflex question

I've been a member here for a while but never posted before because I can usually find my answers by looking thru the forums...I can't this time.

I bought a bowflex recently because I'm fat and hate going to the gyms (of which there aren't too many close to me). I bought this used and it was taken care of REALLY well. Looks really good. The problem I have is I don't think the power rods are working as designed. I put it together yesterday and decided to try it out. Hooked everything up and set it up for a 100lbs on the bench press and it was a peice of cake. Upped the weight some more and still pretty simple. Put ALL the rods on (supposedly 210lbs or resistance) and it was still doable for me. It wasn't exactly pretty but it was too much of a struggle either. I am CERTAIN I'm not able to bench 210. A few weeks ago I had trouble doing 10 pushups (I weigh 208 for reference). Is it possible that the rods have lost resistance after sitting for a while? Or am I superman and just don't know it? (I haven't seen any red white and blue spiders, gamma radiation, or enough yellow sun lately either) Thanx much sorry for the long post.

Are you sure whoever sold it to you didn't also include a similar watch? If so, that's your problem right there. Take it off now!

TBH, if you read on here you'll know that bowflex #s don't transfer very well to freeweight #'s. Back to some more searching I guess.

Thanx for the replies. Did a more vague general BOWFLEX search instead of trying to narrow everything down and finally found my answer. In my defense (after reading all the "just buy a damn gym membership already" replies lol) I paid $50 for this thing. Friend of a friend was moving out of state and basically all I had to do was move it out of his house. If it gets me by for a few months it's paid for itself (yes, I'm justifying dammit lol).

Could be worse! I bought one of these things new from Sears like a year ago for close to $600 and now I kick myself. The 210 lbs is great for most of the other exercises except bench, calves and leg press. After 3 weeks of doing a pushup routine, the 210 lbs had no effect on me after 3 sets of 10 reps

You're alright, just use it for awhile and get into a training routine. In the meantime read on here and other places on the net and if you can, find some good books to decide what you think you'll need and how it will fit into your fitness goals. Then later you can buy better stuff or stuff that might work better for your goals. For simple and even advanced strength training or bodybuilding most around here will recommend a cage, FID, and weights. But even at that it can be more complicated when you consider what all you can actually buy and what all you could decide you want out of your routines.

Point is you got the thing cheap, you can probably sell it for more than you paid for it, and you're at a place (here) trying to learn. Make the best of it.
