jfindon,
first, i'm inspired by your lifts...amazing to me. but i have a question about you saying you do board presses. i don't follow this thread super closely, but i got the impression you work out solo. is that true? if so, how do board presses work for you?
in a similar vein, do you think they are very different in feel/effect from setting the pins at the place you want to stop on your rack?

Thanks. I do work out alone, never had a partner or worked out with anyone in my life. For the board presses I put on a second shirt and slide the board between the two. It's not ideal, but it works well enough.
They're a lot different than pin presses in my opinion. They feel more like a real bench press because they give that "stretch reflex" (as some say) and also seem to keep the weight distributed on your chest better.
Since the weight is on your chest you also can't unload the weight fully, so you're constantly exerting and keeping tight instead of resting on pins and relaxing a bit. Actually bringing the bar to your chest just feels more natural than banging it off of pins.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No.18

I have to leave the house no later than 730, but never have to wake up at 4 am. I've got a wife and two kids to get ready for school and it never seems to be a problem.
But, I can wake up, pee, and go straight to the kitchen and start downing supps and eating a moderate breakfast.
I only need about 30 minutes of awake time before I can get in the gym, but that is part of why I like preWO supps so much.
Could you come home for lunch and workout?

Interesting workout tonight. I was initially psyched to have a good friend of mine agree to join me this evening but I think he ended up being more of a distraction than anything else. I felt off my rhythm for most of the night and the bastard asked me to turn down the volume on my angry training tunes.
If there's a plus side it's that I noticed I pushed myself a little harder than usual because I had another set of eyes on me. I managed to bust out another solid rep on my final DL set at I point when I might have otherwise called it quits. Made me realize that I probably haven’t been making the most of my workouts, even though yesterday I would have sworn to you that I was doing just that. It was a good learning experience, even if I did have to workout to quiet angry tunes.
No lie, this guy has a song from the musical "Wicked" on his iPod workout playlist.

I typically train alone in my garage. I've tried the shirt thing, but instead I know take a bungy cord and strap the boards to my chest (doesn't work with a single board, however). I agree with your observations between pin presses and board presses. The stretch reflex is the principle you are trying to eliminate with a pin press.

I've thought about doing that, but it seems like it would be annoying removing/replacing the board each time you get ready for another set.
Deadlifts tonight. Still liking the Ortmayer routine, but not sure if I'll be hitting what it has me scheduled for by the end. We'll see.

deadlift at the work gym- crappy bar. at least i remembered my belt!
deadlift: 95x10, 135x10, 185x8, 225x5, 275x3, 315x3, 365x2, 405x1, 425x1, 435x1, 405x3, 365x3, 315x5x2
seated row: 80x12, 110x12, 140x10, 175x10, 195x10, 215x10, 225x8, 245x6
cleans: 135x3x5
i don't think the 435 dead was locked out. it was pretty close, but it was slipping out of my hand and i didn't want to drop it."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine

You guys have me thinking about trying out that ortmayer routine...
And I'm not even posting my deadlifts from last night, its a deload week, so my numbers really do look like a schoolgirls
I did get 160 kb swings in at the end, had energy for more but my lower back was on fire so I called it a night.

Nah, that was some nice volume you did.
I'm hoping it gets my 1RM moving again, it doesn't seem like I have gone up much lately. Then again I haven't really tried either.
Tonight was a suck. I came home and took an hour nap and ended up sleeping 15 minutes past my start time, plus I decided to not use Jack3d on my shoulder day so I was back to yawn city. My shoulders are already toast from my bench session so I just did shoulder presses and that was it. It hurts to even scratch myself at the moment thanks to benching.

quick workout tonight while my carpool/work gym lifting partner rode a recumbent bike.
hammer curls: started at 25 and worked up the rack to 50x8x3 and back down
db shrugs: 70x15x10
didn't feel like doing anything, really, but felt even less like doing cardio. it was very hot in the shop and i really just wanted to take a shower and a nap in the truck till he was done.
speed bench/shoulder work tomorrow night, should be fun."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine

Thanks guys. Just pissed I keep bouncing back and forth and never get past 210lbs.
Sorry to hear that man, was it as least amicable?
Squats tonight, most I've ever done in a 5x5. Jack3d made me not even care about doing each set, though I haven't filmed myself in awhile and it seems like I may be bending at the waist a bit much. Not quite ATG this time either, set the safeties one higher.
Squats
135x10
225x5
385x5
385x5
385x5

On second thought, video will get posted once I find a site that isn't a dickhole about music. YouTube has become a piece of **** and Photobucket isn't letting me upload a simple WMV file.
EDIT: Eh, forget it, just have to watch with no sound I guess.

tonight was supposed to be speed bench, but i felt like going heavier.
bench:95x10, 135x10, 185x5, 225x3x3, 275x1, 155x20
military press: 95x10, 135x6, 145x4, 155x3
inverted row: bw x10x6, x8x3
pull aparts: 3 "exercise tubes"x15x3
rope pressdowns: 20x3
the 275 bench was awesome- i think i could have hit a double. that made me happy, the bench at the work gym isn't very nice, it's narrow, the pad is soft and slippery, and it's low. also, i wanted to military 165, but couldn't clean it tonight, so i stopped there."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine

Hey Tim, that's really the first time I remember you putting some numbers in there....plus you added some goals, so good for you. I don't think it matters what you're lifting, you put it out there and stated where you want to be....I think that will help you in the long run, good luck buddy.
Here's my recent stuff-
We did a leg workout Tuesday, but I didn't finish because the pool guy came in the middle of the routine to finish up and get his final check. We are done.....well kind of.......I had to call him today to fix an issue with the auto-cover, so he's coming to fix the issue tomorrow. All in all, he's been very slow and complained every damn step of the way. I probably would not go with him if I had to do it over. However, even in spite of me being very angry a couple of times....he kept a relatively good attitude and did everything I had originally asked him to do...I got the pool I asked for at the beginning. There have also been a couple of problems that he's taken care of and I really believe right now he'll be here tomorrow like he said he would. Soooooo, who knows, I'm not really sure what to say about the dude, so I'm going to reserve judgement for a year until any future problems are resolved and he's had a chance to close the pool in the fall per the contract. This saga is officially tabled!
Pics:
Today's grind:
Triple/Super Sets (Upper/Core) with 90 second breaks between the super sets, obviously no break between the 3 exercises.
#1
Wide Grip Pullups- 5
TBar Rows- 100# x 5
Rear Delt DB Raises- 20# x 6
Repeated 2 more times.
Yea, the delt raises are weak, but by the time I get to them, 20# is about right.
#2
Wide Grip Incline Bench- 115# x 8
Neutral Grip DB Bench- 55# x 8
DB Flys- 25# x 8
Repeated 2 more times.
Got to use the new Hoist Flat/Incline Bench for the last two exercise....very nice, I'm pretty sure its a keeper now....very close to not ever being on the chopping block.
#3
Incline Rev. Crunch- BW x 12
Hi/Lo Woodchopper- 60# x 15
BB Rollouts- BW x 12
Repeated 2 more times.
Concept 2 Row
1000m row- 3 minutes, 53 seconds
This hurt a bit, I'm not gonna lie .
Total time = about 55 minutes▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

158x5

I've lost a lot of strength(especially squats) not working out for the past month or so while building the garage, but it just makes me work all the harder.
Keet, glad to see the saga at an end(almost). Its been in the 90's here all this week and a pool sure would have come in handy.Enjoy!![]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 23 []---[]
"I don't have time to lift, I make time"
Once, at my local gym, I went into the locker room to take a leak. There was this little hairy, naked guy (probably my age) with it swinging down to his knee. He was really showing it off and smiled at me (WTF?!?) and winked. Me, being me, told him out loud, "if you want to impress me with that, have it hold up a barbell with 2 plates a side."

With the pool pics I was expecting to see some swimming lap times in that workout keet. Here's your next gear slut challenge:
http://www.watergym.com/content/video6.asp
Yea, this is the first time I've put numbers anywhere outside the workout tracker. It's sad I've coached kids to better progress than I've been capable of myself. Drives me nuts.
Thanks Captn' Somehow that does help. Still I wonder what it is about my bench press that keeps it so low? I guess it doesn't matter because my chest is actually growing but the numbers just don't seem to work right.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 11

Hmmm......yea, not so much.
I have been trying to get some solid laps in it though, its pretty amazing how quickly that gases me.
If you look real closely at that picture, you can see 4 jets spewing water up and into the pool. They are deck jets that are actually in the concrete. Right in front of my kids there is a small white pump, just between that is one of the jets. There are 2 on each long side and they oppose the other side. I can shut down the regular returns and turn up the jets and the jets will meet each other in the middle about 10' in the air....its actually really cool and creates a nice setting both while you're in the pool and at night while sitting around it relaxing. Wasn't all that expensive of an option either and I'm really glad we added them.
Thanks for the compliments, this has been a luxury my wife and I have planned for for a long time. We are really excited to share this with our family and friends (at least for the next 2 years before the world ends ).▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

Nice pool Keetman. I'll be over tomorrow to take a dip.
Wildtim. Don't be embarrassed by your numbers. We don't care. In fact, I feel safe saying we respect the fact that you lift and are in better shape than 99% of males your age. If you don't believe me, head to the mall on a Saturday afternoon and just look around. Almost every guy has a belly. It's ridiculous.

Nice pool, we tore our above ground down a few years ago but if we had an inground pool I'd use it. Especially now since I put on all this weight, I go outside and sit and just start sweating. Before I'd have to play basketbal for about an hour before I was hot enough to jump in the pool.
New ****ty picture from tonight, I wish I could replicate what I see in the mirror but the lighting is so bad down there and I have to adjust all the settings before I even get in the frame, so it's a guessing game. Not really flexed, it's just holding the dumbbell there after the momentum of swinging it down from behind my head. I tried to make my veins pop around my head/neck but that's the only real flexing.
Speaking of which, did a copy of my workout from last week. After my 5th set I stood there trying to find something else to do because I still had a ton of energy. Jack3d is still having an effect I see. I'll have to come up with some more exercises for next week.
