Surgery tomorrow on my wrecked knee. I'll post a picture of the mess in the next couple days.

The doc will be fixing my completely torn patella. It tore in the middle so he said he will probably implant a "new" one from a cadaver. He may or may not fix the torn ACL depending how it looks when he sees it.

Yep. That's where I'm at now. Makes me wish for the days when the kids were little and not so froward.

(Froward is my vocabulary word for the year. It means "Stubbornly contrary and disobedient" and is frequently the perfect word for describing teenagers. When I first encountered it in a book I was reading, I thought at first that the author had simply misspelled "forward".)

The topper, is my teenagers are daughters. I believe dad currently resides 3 levels below the devil's basement.(that is when a car gets taken away, or a cell phone gets requested back. Not when dad is asked for money or a later curfew...) I would say this merely is the tip of the iceberg, but with me being the titanic at times, and not knowing what hit me, that would be a bit redundant.

Also what's up fellows...last night was a terribly productive night for my personal life. Without jumping into too much detail, my wife has been very much job hopping. Soon as she feels like something isn't right, or doesn't like the job she leaves it. She's already on her 2nd job this year (since Jan.) and is planning to quit. Well we start talking last night and she has finally found an area of study where she wants to pursue a CAREER for once instead of just a job. So I dug a bit, they make really good money, it's in the medical field and a local community college has a program for the training! So happiness is in me right now and hoping this is her final stop on the job hopping.

I'm a fan of most things Rogue, but I'm not sure what to think of these...



I've been using kettlebells for doing Renegade Rows. I haven't tried it, but I think Ironmaster dumbbells or even hex DBs would work well too. Heck, even pro-styles or spin-locks would probably work; they'd just add an extra challenge.

I'm sure this new Rogue gear works just fine; it just seems to me that there are several other good solutions out there already.

Am I missing something?

This is kind of what I was thinking. I just saw these on their site and they didn't really do anything for me. However, Rogue has been coming out with some cool stuff. I guess they can't hit a Homerun with everything and we'd never see anything new if they weren't trying.

Seeing those inspired me to take a break and go downstairs to do some Renegade Rows.

As I was doing them, it occurred to me that maybe it's just a weight thing.

I was able to do renegade rows with 32kg (70lb) kettlebells. (I had actually never tried it before with that weight.) I don't own any pairs of kettlebells bigger than this. I tried another set with my Ironmaster dumbbells set at the weight - only 30lbs - that was on them. They worked really well and provided a base of support superior to that of the kettlebell. (On the other hand, part of the challenge with the KB is the small base of support that it provides.) So if I wanted to go up in weight, I could conceivably load up to 120lbs on the Ironmaster DBs. (I doubt that I can do a renegade row with 120lbs though.)

Anyway, not everyone is going to have the right kind of dumbbell or matched pairs of kettlebells up to really heavy weights. So perhaps those new Rogue handles do have a place.

Currently sitting on the sofa with leg up. I have this little cooler thing that circulates cold water around the knee. No ice packs. Pretty nice.

Sorry to disappoint Keetman, but no pain pills yet. I have a really high tolerance for discomfort. We'll see how long I hold out.

awesome! on the pain pills, i put up with a pretty high amount myself, but sometimes... i just like to feel better. i'll have bottles of them around for a while, but eventually they get used.

Glad to hear from you. Thought you might be out of it for longer than you were.

I'm with you on the pills. I used hardly any after my ankle surgery. Apparently, I was refusing them in the hospital too - the medical staff at the hospital had to talk to my wife to get me to take them. I didn't have any recollection of that - you often don't remember a lot after coming out of anaesthesia. But my wife told me about it afterward. That said, there may actually be a good medical reason for taking them. From what I recall, they said that my blood pressure was up from the pain.

Holy Crap Batman....high tolerance or not, let me know how that knee feels when the anesthesia wears off. When I had my knew scoped and my meniscus clipped....the 3 days after were the most painful of my life. My "surgery" can't possibly compare to yours.

Maybe I'm just a puss, not sure, but that hurt like a beotch. Oh.....I absolutely don't have an addictive personality....compulsive yes, but not addictive, so I don't ever worry about the meds. If I need them, I take them....if I don't, I don't. Not saying that's why some don't like them, just that that's the only reason I've ever worried about taking heavy doses of pain killers. If I'm safe at home and don't need to be coherent.....I see no reason to be in excessive discomfort after an injury or surgery. Abuse of them is another thing altogether......please don't get me wrong, just saying they're a tool, imo.

I know that pain tolerances vary as do the invasiveness, severity and recovery time on different surgeries. But I only took the pain killers that they forced me to take while at the hospital when I had my ACL and meniscus surgery (the first 24 hours).
They gave me a whole bottle of something (Oxycodone I think) when I went home and its still 100% full, sitting in my medicine cabinet.
It wasnt a pain tolerance thing, my knee just never hurt that bad. I took some ibuprofen from time to time, but thats about it.

Oh and Yankee, glad to hear that the surgery went well.

I got tired of the rust battle with my Olympic bar. I put a thin coat of flat back rustolium over it.
should hold up long enough till I get a new bar.
CLR and WD40 wasn't keeping the rust from forming. so I soaked in CLR, cleaned with alcohol, and painted.

I'm with KBKB, no York stuff anymore. I do have access to about 33 sets of old school York roundhead dbs though and I've owned over 3000 lbs of York goodness!
