    Sternum pain while bench pressing

    I've been lifting for about a year now and I started a 5x5 routine about 2 weeks ago. Ever since my last chest day, whenever I bench press I feel a sharp pain in my sternum. It's not unbairable but it is alarming. My strength is going up at a fast pace as well. 2 weeks ago I was doing 205 for 5 and today I did 225 for 5. Anyone know what this pain could be?

    dont bounce bar if u are, also stretch sternum before i like to crack mine somewhat its hard to explain its like a half crunch

    I'm not bouncing the bar off my chest and I am stretching. I am doubling my glucosamine dose because I believe the pain to be coming from my 2nd costal cartilage.

    you should probably lower the weight for a lil bit and see if it heals. ive never had this problem in all my years
