Question Increase Bench while cutting weight?

Increase Bench while cutting weight? Possible, I lost around 6 lbs so for and my bench hasn?t been going down. But Im still at my 185x2-3 plateau. Would it be possible to increase my flat bench while still cutting weight?

I'm on a 3 day split, 3 days I lift heavy and in-between those days I do a special high intensity weight program.

It's definitely possible if you're new too lifting and your calories aren't ridiculously low.

I'm cutting and I've been (slowly) increasing my flat bench.

    I work on a 5x3,4,5 routine.

So if I was you I'd be lowering the weight to 180 and working up to a 5x5 then upping the weight to 185 and starting on a 5x3 then working up to a 5x5 and so on.

Not a proper routine or anything, just what works for me.

I'm currently increasing my bench numbers, going for 285 3X4 next week. The thing is for me its more probably muscle memory than anything else because my best ever bench was 365x3. Still its pretty good consitering I havent properly worked out in a year (prior to these past 2 months of cutting)

I DONT KNOW MAN... my bench is like the ONLY thing to always suffer during low calories... mainly because CHEST muscles are the biggest and naturally, get devoured for energy first over the smaller ones.

In my experience, no... it was un-avoidable for me to lose a little on the bench when cutting calories seriously.

I'm currently eating 1600-1900 cals/day with very low and some no carb days, and I just hit my first PR's on the 5x5, including 305x5 on bench.

Don't know how long I'll be able to keep it up, but yea, it can be done.

I wish my bench would go up. I've been stuck at 135x2 max for awhile. So i've been practicing 5x5 at 115. Before I could only do 3x5 at 115 and then 2 sets of 3 or 2 of 115 but now I could do 4 sets of 5 at 115 and 1 set of 3 115. meh

Yes you can definately go up in strength while on a cut.... not in muscle mass. Now this is mostly the case when your relatively new to the gym.... first 3 months or so. If your an experienced lifter you are probably going pretty heavy and more than likely will not add strength on a cut.

I do dumbell workouts with chest when I'm trying to increase my bench numbers. Works for me in the past when I was doing some powerlifting back in college. I like doing incline dumbell press (pyramid).

If you have a high bodyfat percentage, then it's no problem. If you're already 10% BF or lower and you're cutting, don't even bother trying to increase your bench. Maintaining your strength should be your only goal at that point.
