    Question whey protein before workout?

is there any advantage to taking it before a workout? Ive been told not to take it before, is there any benefit? Or is it just a waste? I've been taking it before and after
    Thanks

I like to be on nearly an empty stomach when lifting.. so if I eat a big 1200 calorie meal, I'd want to wait 2 or 3 hours before I lifted.

However usually ill eat breakfast (only ~600 cals) when I get up... not enough calories.. so 1 hour before I leave to go lift ill drink a whey protein drink. It is fairly digested by the time I start lifting.

Taking pretty much ANY protein will provide you with 18-26% BCAA. Having aminos in your blood while you lift is a good thing because it helps with muscle protein synthesis.

Regardless of whether you get the aminos from whey or some other protein source (chicken, steak, fish, etc.) it is good to have protein as part of your pre workout nutrition.

    snorkelman has the right idea.

also would like to point out that protein breakdown leads to an increase of nitrogen which via the bodies homeostatic functions will attempt to wash away from tissue cells, in turn a decrease of water. hence, while working out make sure you are keeping your fluids up or you will fatigue much faster and your general processes will not be as effective. However don't drink too much or you will get bloated and that will make things really tough for workout conditions...im sure most of us are aware of what its like to try and train bloated...pwoahhh

Whats more important than concentrating taking protein before workout, is the protein distributed throughout the day. That is a protein consumption 3 times throughout the day, personally once in the morning around breakfast, before workout, after workout/before bed.

If your keen on supplementation before workout to enhance training and growth, you should be looking at specific pre-workout supplements. They are definitely worth investing in and its a wide world of supps out there to browse through.

The most popular being things such as creatine or pre-workout pumps like NaNoVapor, SuperPump250 and NO Xplode.

They will do much much more for you than protein will as protein is more associated with muscle recovery and rebuilding outside of the gym, whereas these pre-workout supps optimize your training within the gym to assist in maximizing your training gains.

Before I workout I always eat a meal 1 hour before and a shake 30 mins before. As far as post its pretty much the same system. Shake within a half hr post and a meal usually an hr. Also as stated as above make sure you meet your protein intake for the day.

Just my $.02, NO Xplode and SuperPump250 is all marketing, NO Shotgun and Black powder are good. I would say I've had some pretty kick ass workouts from Black Powder. Get something with NO and Creatine.
