    Adduction vs abduction

    Which of these fall under adduction and which fall under abduction? Thanks

    Barbell Squat

    Dbell Row

    Upright Row

    adduction is the movement of a limb towards the center of the body, while abduction is the movement of the limb away from the body.

    not sure how the barbell squat would be classified (if it even can be).

    on the db row, your scapula moves toward the center of the body so i'd say adduction (though it really would be classified as retraction).

    for the upright row, the scapula moves away from the center of the body in an upward rotation, so for that I'd say abduction.

    Ok, not sure if anyone else cares, but if they do.

    Starting from squatted position, the hips move towards the center of the body, therefore making an adduction movement.

    Let me know if any disagreement here

    Ps this was something i needed for class, not just completely random

    A squat is a flexion and an entension movement.

    Dumbbell row is a abduction (on the negatives), and adduction on the positives.

    Upright row would be elevation and depression.
