Anything in excess can be harmful. But you'd have to take in ungodly amounts of protein to actually get sick from it. You can have too much at one meal, as more than 30 grams at a time is usually a waste. 30 grams is the same as 90 at one meal.

A old amatuer bodybuilder said that he had some problems with his kidneys from drinking to many protein shakes...but yaa anything can be harmful if you take enough of it...

Pro body builders work out hours and hours in the gym. I'm not saying protein is going to harm you, in fact I doubt OP can eat enough protein in a day to harm him but in any case just eat 1 or 2 grams of protein for every pound in your body.

dude ur an idiot. of course too much protein ****ks wit ur kidneys it can be too much to process. my nutrition teache (a doctor) enforced this in class today. we talked about it the whole time. also you can't process more than 30 grams at a time keep that in mind. a study showed 30g and 90g are processed to the same extent. you gotta get 1.25g per kg (2.2 lbs i think) of bw a day. spread it out. goin over a little bit is fine most of america does it

...1.25g/kg is the most retarded thing i've ever heard...Sure someone that never workouts or anything can live off that amount..But when you're working out really hard, you're body will need MUCH more...Some may even suggest 2g/POUND of body weight...

As a teen you shouldn't worry about causing any damage to your kidneys..unless you already have some sort of kidney problems...Anything your body doesn't process will end up in the toilet.

If what you say is true, someone who takes creatine should be dead by now...Yet your body can process up to 25g of the stuff a day..so protein shouldn't be a problem at all. Heck, most weight gainer shakes can have up to 65g of protein...Mine with milk and peanut butter gives me ~90...

to the idiot that tried to call me out.... read this you moron http://www.tomvenuto.com/asktom/prot...per_meal.shtml

"Some people think that the 30 grams of protein "rule" was started by protein supplement company marketing because thats the amount of protein they put into each serving of their product."
    and im the idiot hahaah

also if a 300 bber can only digest 30g of protein in a sitting your saying he needs to eat 10 meals a day to get just 1g of protein per lb

more proof of my point "This would suggest that the 30 grams per meal limit does not exist and that 60 grams over three meals would allow your body to utilize the majority of that 180 grams."

also companies such as ON and Gaspari make products such as serious mass and real mass that contain like 60g's of protein.... so your saying that only 30g's get digested and the other 30g's are pointless? you sir are the idiot

How much you can digest in one meal depends on a number of things. You can't just say a 300 pound bodybuilder can digest the same amount of protein in a sitting as a 145 pound teen. Also, protein is broken down into amino acids and peptides once in your body. I've heard that what isn't used is converted into glucose.
