I've heard that the whole thing about eggs/egg yolks causing your cholesterol to rise is a myth. And that it really depends more on your diet and the other things you eat, than just eggs being the sole cause of it.
For example, you can eat 3 eggs a day and most likely this won't significantly increase your cholesterol to an unhealthy count. This only happens if it is high already because of your diet.
Others have told me eating too many eggs/egg yolks (like 3 a day) does increase cholesterol count to an unhealthy level just by itself if you do it for a long time.
Which is correct?

Well as I learned in biochem...Eggs are high in cholesterol. The body can only take in about 1000 mg of cholesterol through diet, compared to the bodies need of about 1700 mg per day. The deficit is made up by the liver. To truly raise your cholesterol levels you actually have to take in a high amount of saturated fats. Which eggs are lower in saturated fats than other foods the are known to raise cholesterol level (french fries, twinkies)
What is my reference? I'm a medical student.

I'm not too sure myself, but as for daily recommended allowance for cholesterol, I know one egg has well over half the allowance.
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.
I'm not out there sweating for three hours every day just to find out what it feels like to sweat.

Eggs are the cheapest protein source I regularly consume. And that's even granting that I spend about 3.20 a dozen buying from a local farm. I never insist that others do the same, but the ethical and health concerns make the extra money worth it to me. Regardless, even these pricier eggs are cheaper than most any meat. Given that I eat 3-4 eggs in a given session, I'm paying about a dollar a "serving". And there's nothing budget about the taste. But about the cholesterol. I've yet to see any compelling evidence that my consumption of 3-6 eggs a day is even remotely hazardous; neither from general studies or my own medical reports. In fact, as other egg devotees have expressed, I have incredibly low "bad" cholesterol levels. But if you're still a bit worried, just eat lots of fruits and veggies (good advice no matter the diet followed) and train hard.

You're relying on the American Heart Association. They put so much money in the past into promoting that dietary cholesterol was horrible for your heart and that eggs were one step short of demonic. Now that they have been proven wrong, they have not said anything since

The factor that determines blood cholesterol is consumption of high amounts of saturated fats/balance of fats in proportion to one another. As others have said, the liver synthesises cholesterol.

Dietary cholesterol has very little effect on blood cholesterol, eggs have also been proven to increase the "good" cholesterol with what little effect it ha.
So considering eggs are the best possible protein you could ever consume and are high in other health improving nutrients and vitamins, there is little to no reason not to eat them.

Hey guys, you should really do your research before answering people's nutritional questions. Don't just post your own, uninformed opinion.
The cholesterol in eggs is not harmful in any way. Eating dietary cholesterol does not clog your arteries. The system is vastly more complicated than that. Do not pay any attention to the percentage on the nutritional label. That is a government label that means nothing.

Personal Example: I pound eggs. Have intestine problems, cant eat lots of things, but eggs don't bother me. I've been known to eat an easy dozen a day, lots of meat, and protein shakes. Get bloodwork at least monthly to check my medication's effect. My LDL Cholesterol (bad) is rediculously low. My HDL (Good) is right where the doc wants it. Nutritionist said an egg every day will wreck my cholesterol, then I told her how many I eat and she gave up. She also kept telling me that more than 100g protein a day will ed my kidneys within years. There is a lot of bad advice out there, even from so called professionals!
Work out enough, and you can eat ANYTHING! Mwuhahahaaaaa
