The last few times I have enjoyed just watching it. My wife records the ice skating. I cannot stand that.....but like the skiing and outdoor activities.

I love the Olympics!!
Its funny but I like the winter games more than the summer even though I have never done any of the winter sports.
I like it more because the USA isnt the dominant force like in the summer games so we get to watch some competitors that are from all over the world.
Look at the swimming for example of the track and field. We are great at those things but sometimes I want to see competitors from everywhere. The winter games fits that bill for me.
I would say the only thing I dont much care for is the ice dancing, no overhead lifts or throws allowed. The reason I know that is because I have watched a bunch of it in the past.
Love the cross country skiing, speed skating, ski jumpibg, bobsledding, alpine skiing, figure skating (womens), curling, hockey. Hell, I guess I like all the sports in the winter games!!
It sound geeky but I do fly my Olympic flag out front all during the games. I am that into it!!

Nope. Not even close.
In fact I do not watch any sports or programmed television of any kind.
My TV plays music and XBOX, and occasionally CNN. That's it.
I will be oblivious to the results unless I overhear someone talking about it at work.
And I'm OK with that.

Yes, I live near Lake Placid and because of all the available training there are many locals on the team. I believe there are 12 athletes from the north country. Mostly in the Nordic and sliding events.

I kind of wish they hadn't kept showing that crash over and over and especially the shots of them trying to revive him. I was watching with my kids and had to shut it off. Normally I would watch the CBC coverage but they were having some kind of problem with the sound (at least locally). Normally I'm one of the stop whining and quit being a pussy types around here, but the kid died for crying out loud. I thought that was in terrible taste.

Sorry to keep on about this but as I said I live relatively close to a sliding facility. If you ever have a chance to see a sliding (sled, luge or skelleton) in person the speeds are amazing. It's actually hard to see them as they go by you. Car race speeds in turns so tights and straights that are extremely short. That whole thing just made me very sad.

it was horrible that they actually showed that...it was heart wrenching...i thought maybe they were just going to show where it happened, not it actually happening, i still cant get that image out of my mind...

Well the woman wanted to watch the opening ceremonies, so after the "pre game" hype ended it was ok watching the athletes stroll in; after that it was painfull at parts and i kept saying is it over yet? Then at 11pm i found myself pulling my hair out. By 1205am i could not wait to take the dogs out.

I completely agree. There is a devastated family out there. I wonder about just what the networks were thinking.

I love curling! So does my wife. We were in vegas during the last winter olympics and one night we had it on while we were getting ready to go out. We ended up just getting room service. Such a fun sport! We can't wait until next week (when the tourneys start). We will be tivo-ing all the footage we can find.
Growing up in new england with skiing, hockey, and sledding, I really enjoy the winter games. To bad our coverage sucks compared to the BBC but we will take what we can I guess.

While the Canuck in me does hope that Canada can bring home a few medals in ice hockey (either men's or women's would be fine) curling, maybe skiing (although the Europeans are great) and speed/figure skating--national pride and all that--I'm not much of a winter fan. I hated it when I lived in Canada and I still hate it.
Watched the vid of the young Georgian fellow who died in the luge accidet. The impact after he'd been hurled off his luge must have killed him instantly; the way he ended up was like a rag doll that'd been thrown. Hard. Just terrible for him and his family, and that put a damper on the whole Games. So while I hope that Canada does well, I'll just end up reading about it in the paper---after seeing that tragedy, the fun's gone out of it for me.

That was quite a wipeout with the two Koreans at the end of the finals.

What with HDTV and more affordable flat screens compared to 4 years ago, it's actually visually quite impressive.
You think of all the leg related training these men and women have gone through to get to this point and it'd make any mention of 'leg day' here seem like a walk in the park.
The downside is so much of the figure skating in prime time; but that's what gets the ratings (women viewers). A couple hours over the two weeks would be enough here.
They're worth having on to catch something here & there.
Still, I already miss football. and yeah, I also hate snow.
