Which sport is more athletically demanding? Basketball or Hockey?

All I know is that in hockey guys are so tired after 45 seconds they need to take a break.
Seems pretty demanding. They couldn't go back to the Greasers
All they could do was pick up the pieces

Hockey. Much more physical and I believe playing on skates for 25min is much harder than running for 40min. Plus, hockey seems to always be moving back and forth across the rink.... basketball has much more time in between changes of possession (in my opinion).

I would think it was basketball. In hockey you have players still plaing in their 40's and players like Yzerman that can play on bum knees at an old age. Once you lose your legs in basktball your pretty much donezo unless you're MJ or just purely a shooter.

Never played hockey so I get the feeling hockey is.
Basketball can get pretty rough though especially in the paint.

Seems like aside from baseball, the lower scoring games are the most physically demanding: Hockey, Soccer.

I can only imagine people who have never skated hard thinking that basketball is more demanding.

Hockey, no contest. The contact, high-speed and flow takes so much out of a player.

i think basketball...you dont see guys who start and put in 40 minutes a night lasting into their late 30s and 40s like you do in hockey. also i think i read that an average starter who puts in 40 minutes a night or more runs about 6.5 miles in a game. thats a lot of milage considering the majority of it comes in sprints and cuts that are 20 feet or less in distance...that being said, both sports are very exhausting.

Basketball takes more explosiveness, and just as much coordination and endurance, if not more. Half of the movement hockey players make, is their momentum sliding them around on the ice.

basketball has better athletes in the classical sense of the definition. speed, power, explosiveness.
but hockey is a more demanding sport physically.

Basketball by far. Playing a full court game you have to sprint, jump, box out, change directions on a dime, all while playing offense and defense.

The question is which sport is more athletically demanding not which sport requires the most endurance. There are really five keys to athleticism: Explosiveness, Strength, Speed, Agility, Endurance. B-ball may require more endurance but you have to be more explosive, agile, faster, and stronger to play hockey. You also have to be able to balance on knife thin skates.

Skating requires tons of hip flexion, I bet hockey players cores are ridiculously strong.
