LOL you're presuming MJ can even skate. You've clearly never had a pair of skates on your feet before and you sound stupid.
If Kobe or Lebron grew up playing hockey, they would own the sport.
And you probably wonder why you're red.Blue jays/Spartans/Colts

LOL at Wayne Gretzky not having cat like reflexes, clearly you've never watch or played hockey.
Watch a NBA game vs NHL, much more action in the NHL. NBA players seem lazy at times. Ice skating takes so much out of you, throw in the contact and its demanding as anything.
I feel hockey is the most demanding sport in the worldEat Big. Lift Big. Get Big

Hockey by far!!!! To try and state that Gretzky "couldnt play basketball for 40 minutes is ridiculous. I would bet he could out endure the basketball players... But surely he cant jump as high as a basketball player....But thats just because he's not 6'6....
""""""Basketball players are the finest athletes of all"""
Buwahahahaha!!!! Really? Shaq? Barkley??? etc...etc...The only reason shaq is playing is because he's 7 feet tall and weighs in over 300 lbs and can "MANAGE" to get back and forth...Hardly "one of top athletes in the world".. Just paid and revered as one...it's not the same thing...
ANY hockey player can play basketball...The reverse is not true...Putting a professional hockey team on the court against a pro basketball team, would produce far superior results than putting a pro basketball team on the ice with an NHL team...
Dont kid yourself...
-

These are futile points.... Gretzky's jump would be superior to "most athletes"... Thats why he made it to the NHL....The NHL combine is rigorous, and they dont take people that "Cant Jump" LOL.... Surely though, it couldnt be as high as Michael Jordan, but again, this is because he's not 6'6....
As far as figure skating, this would be a better equation to make against basketball players abilities...Figure skating and Hockey skating are completley different and require different skillsets.... Basketball players are more like figure skaters...High jumping...precision placement of jump arcs and landings......
And I've seen a penalty in Basketball............Buwahahahahaha! Touchy touchy!!

The thread title doesn't make sense.
Which sport is more PHYSICALLY demanding? Hockey!
Which sport requires more athleticism? I'd say basketball.cant wait 2 c ur big ugly ass

I suppose I would have to disagree with this also.... In hockey, your spatial awareness is in constant challenge...If for an instant you take your awareness out, you will be blindsided, and with that, the initial moment of decision is more accute and the ability to react to it is superior....Split second decisions are occurring at rapid pace....The forces at work are also tremendous....Someone made note that "Hockey players are GLIDING around", and not expending, or cruising....This is not true... Hockey players are moving at +20 mph and can reach 35-40 mph at speed, and the G's involved in even the most minor turns are heavy....A pro hockey player has superior Core and athleticism "just by the nature of the game"..
The reactions of a pro hockey player versus a Basketball player would not compare. The physical capability to manage and perform/maneuver under those reactions would also not compare..
Again, hockey by far...

Hockey by far. I've played both (after college my coaches would have **** bricks if i pulled that **** in college) and the amount of punishment your body takes in a couple shifts is absolutely AMAZING. Banging on the boards, quick direction changes and the hand eye coordination required to make passes accurately on the fly or even shoot from a static position are like nothing else in sports.

physically demanding? how could you not say hockey? a speed skating is way harder than sprinting not to mention you get trucked in hockey nobody gets hit that hard in bball unless it is a flagrant foul
-

hey guys, i think dis dude mad he sux at bball.
Athletically demanding = basketball.
physically demanding = hockey
toughest to get into? Definately basketball. Good luck competing with athletic black dudes that all they do is play basketball every day for 8 hours. I've known one person who has played hockey in their life and he was very unfit.
and lol at comparing jordan to gretzky. Theres a reason they call gretzky the "jordan" of hockey. Jordan is the pinnacle of hard work, he could play hockey if he wanted to.TEAM Suns - Cards - Pacquiao.

disagree. To all people saying "if MJ could ice skate he would be good" no, I know several people that are much better skaters than me, but I am a much better hockey player than them. Bottom line is an NHL player would be better at basketball than a basketball player would be at hockey. Also athleticism is hand-eye coordination, and Goalie requires far more hand eye coordination than basketball, along with ridiculous endurance and more explosiveness than basketball. Anyone who plays hockey will know this, others will just say "but the fat kid played goalie"

the question is ATHLETICALLY DEMANDING
the answer is basketball. your experience playing pickup ball with a bunch of 5'9 white guys at the YMCA is meaningless.
run crosby and ovechkin vs lebron and wade in a physical fitness test, the hockey players would be embarrassed. these guys are superhuman
-
09-23-2010, 05:02 AM #55
you have it backwards. Crosby is a sick phuck...you have no idea how insanely well conditioned those guys are and how much explosiveness and drive they have to maintain
the amount of physical contact in hockey far exceeds that of basketball and places additional demands on the body.

The problem with this is "athletically demanding" can have so many different definitions.
Basketball no doubt requires more strength and speed. Hockey definitely requires more hand eye coordination and agility, as well as quicker reactions. Stamina is a toss up.
That's how I look at it. I think some of you tend to put more emphasis on the strength and speed aspect when you rate athletics personally. It's really all how you want to define it though. In the end I'd say hockey wins as more demanding.

Played both, and this shouldnt even be a comparison.
Hockey by a mile. If u played Hockey then u know how demanding of a sport it is.
Comparing Hockey and football would be a much better comparison IMO."Training is 100 percent, Nutrition is 100 percent, and Mental approach is 100 percent. It is like a tripod, you take one of the legs away and they all fall down. " - Dorian Yates

The question is athletically demanding, thats hands down basketball. If it were physically demanding then it would probably be hockey.

Please guys, explain the differences between "athletically demanding" and "physically demanding."
They go hand in hand.
Hockey requires explosiveness, agility, timing (the different shots in hockey require different movements), good stamina, and great hand-eye coordination.
All retards saying basketball, Hockey isn't just kicking your legs a bit and gliding around on the ice for an hour. Please put on ice skates and sprint from one end of the ice and back then come back to me.
I played hockey for ten years and it took me a long time to excel in my skating, stick-handling, and shooting skills.psn: mdksniper
