can i do leg press instead of squat

i dont really look forward to doing squat but i have to work the leg somehow. So what do you guy think about doing leg press instead of squat. Would i have the same benefits. What should one leg press if he or she is 5'8" and 154 lbs? Also what are some good leg exercises, i am trying to work out leg more often. Any leg advice would be nice. Thanks

Are you seriously asking how much weight you should be leg pressing? o_0

At times I don't really look forward to squatting but yet I still load some plates on the bar and get to squatting. The leg press is never going to be the same as squatting. When squatting your entire body is being used not just your legs. Abs, back, etc. Just man up and squats. Focus on technique before weight. Once your technique is down the poundage will come. Now please stop being such a big vagina about it and get to squatting (no pun)

start with 80kg leg press or whatevers comfortable, then slowly work your way up, im currently on 200kg, i know a few people who leg press 400kg and have huge legs, you dont get the same benefits as squats but leg pess does work your quads and glutes enough to make a significant differece. when you leg press make sure you have a large range of motion as well to get a more squat like effect and take the movements slowly and controlled to really feel the burn in legs and glutes!

I have to disagree with what a lot of other guys are saying here. No, you do not have to squat. What are your goals- are you loking to get strong or are you looking to get a good body? If you're looking to get a good body, then do what exercises work for YOU- not everybody will have the same results from a particular exercise. This is a bodybuilding forum, not a strength forum, therefore you should be focused on getting what you want in terms of building your body, and the best way to achieve those goals. If squats don't work for your thighs- f*ck them, if benching doesn't work for your chest- f*ck it, there's no 'must-do' exercise. Yes, if you want to look at it that way, it is preferable that you squat, but if it ain't working then why continue? I've followed the advice of people saying you 'have' to do certain things but it's done nothing but hold me back, and by finding what works for me personally I'm now able to determine what exercises I see better results from. If you want to compete in powerlifting or strength sports, then you will have to squat (regardless of muscle development you see from it) but other than that, if you have too much difficulty perfecting the form, or don't get good muscle stimulation from them, then forget about them and try something else.

    Read the heading "Exercise Selection" in this article;
    http://www.tmuscle.com/article/bodyb...the_volume&cr=
...It's helped me to think for myself with regards to my training

EDIT: Yes, I do squat. And deadlift.
Anorexia dragged me to rock-bottom; watch me build myself back up...

    Yes I squat
Certainly not the 1/4 ROM leg presses that look like knee flexes that everybody does.
I see more people cheating the ROM on leg press than in squats, BY FAR.

alright so i will get back to squating. i also been seeing people do half squat and other alternative. I currently do full range squat, should i add on other alternative squat? if so what? also does the smith machine make a whole lot of difference? i might have to use the smith machine because the squat rack is always pack. Also i been neglecting the deadlift also noone really do them in my gym, should i start deadlifting again too?

IN terms of leg development legpress=squat, the only difference is the fact u don't need to use your ab/adductors.
    Leg press is a compound
You do get the same benefits

Don't try to pull an "squats release hormones" on me, cuz I aint buying that crap.

    Yes I squat
not true at all. squats involve stabilizing. leg press does not. leg press is basically all quads, squats are quads/glutes/hams/low back/abs/abductors/adductors. then of course strength/coordination wise, there is no comparison what so ever.

even most IFBB pros will agree that heavy basic **** will produce the most growth. of course no one ever wants to believe that because there is no tangible proven difference, but the results speak for themselves.

quit looking for excuses to do what is easier. if you dont want to squat because it is hard, then just admit it. dont make up excuses.
