I thought they are having france build them a ship for assault use. I remember reading the article way back. The ship is radically advanced and russia needed france to sort out the technology because in the past russia had reliability issues with their stuff.
They showed a picture and the thing was huge.
Double check my story though. I'm not 100% and I cant surf very well from my mobile phone.
I THINK the ship is called the Mistral? Minstral? Mistal???? Maybe that is the ship you mentioned...

This thread is now about the United States Littoral Combat Ship
The concept behind the littoral combat ship, as described by former Secretary of the Navy Gordon R. England, is to "create a small, fast, maneuverable and relatively inexpensive member of the DD(X) family of ships." The ship is easy to reconfigure for different roles, including anti-submarine warfare, mine countermeasures, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, homeland defense, maritime intercept, special operations, and logistics. Due to its modular design, the LCS will be able to replace slower, more specialized ships such as minesweepers and larger assault ships.[3]
Most of the functions of the mission modules will be performed by carried vehicles such as the helicopters or unmanned vehicles such as the Spartan Scout, AN/WLD-1 RMS Remote Minehunting System and MQ-8 Sea Scout. By performing functions such as sonar sweeps for mines or submarines or tor**** launches against hostile submarines at some distance from the ship's hull, the crew is placed at less risk. This is part of the Navy's goal to unman the front lines.[4] One robotic system being considered to reduce manpower requirements is the Roomba.[5]
Also by placing sensors on remote vehicles the LCS will be able to exploit concepts such as bistatic sonar without actually being in two places at the same time.[6]
A report by the Pentagon's director of Operational Test and Evaluation found that neither design was expected to "be survivable in a hostile combat environment" and that neither ship could withstand the Navy's ship shock trials.[7]

Yeah, it's Mistral and it's not advanced, it's just a heli carrier. Carries like that were made even by the USSR God knows how long ago. And like i said, there is no tech transfer.
French already said that they are ready for the deal and they are waiting for Russia's final word. I personally don't think the deal should go through since they are waste of $.

LOL. You follow the T-50 closely eh? Well instead of telling you what a f*cking idiot you are for thinking a test pilot in the USAF would know less than what you know, which I'm sure is all hearsay on forums, I'll go ahead and quote a few places.
"[Russian] Air Force chief Alexander Zelin admitted as recently as last August that problems with the engine and in technical research remained unsolved."
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle7007913.ece
"В любом случае, внешний вид серийного ПАК ФА будет отличаться от его прототипа.
In any case the external appearance of the serial PAKFA will be different.
В частности, изменения может претерпеть кормовая часть, где будут располагаться отклоняемые сопла двигателей.
In part it will affect the aft where the Thrust vectoring nozzles will be located Prototype DID NOT have thrust vectoring engines in it! - WHAT THE HELL were they test flying today then?
Изменения коснутся и передней части - предполагается, что использованный во время испытаний переплетный фонарь кабины пилота будет заменен на цельный.
Front of the aircraft will be changed to a solid cockpit...
Между мотогондолами расположатся внутренние отсеки вооружения.
Between the engine mounts the internal weapon mounts will be created, HMM I wonder if putting in weapons bays will de-stabilize and completely change the capabilities of this plane.
in all truth and honesty, I give up this aircraft, is a dissapointment. its maiden flight is a failure just like the Bulava. It flies but its nothing more than a test bed, of ideas like the Su47 or the MFI1.44"
Scroll down to post #532 for the post I just quoted above. http://www.defencetalk.com/forums/ai...ghter-3725-36/
Even though I don't believe forums are reliable sources of information due to accuracy, that guy was translating what a Russian article was saying.
"Zhukovsky, Moscow Region: Russia's fifth-generation fighter planes, being developed by the Sukhoi design bureau in collaboration with India's Hindustan Aeronautic Ltd (HAL), is set to start flight trials in November, the Russian air force chief said Thursday. He also revealed that the fighters' engine development programme had run into some problems."

Obviously before you start flaming, yes all new aircraft will have their share of problems, engines and everything.
I am only quoting those because you seem to think I pull sh*t out of my ass. But don't worry, like you said, you follow military aircraft closely. I will make sure to send Robert Gates an email telling him to take future expert advice from you on what to do with our aircraft.

And what does American test pilot know about T-50? It's not Russia let him test the plane....He knows as much about the plane as we do here, which is not a lot and that is a fact.
The article is ancient and the source is horrible as well. Timesonline is like Fox news, only worse. As i already said, the new engines are fine, they have already been successfully tested on a different prototype not long ago. I think the plane with the new engines flew like a month ago or so.
I also don't understand what point you are trying to make. Just like F-35, T-50 is still in tests so failures are common during those times, not that it had many of them...Last edited by foXs; 02-03-2010 at 07:03 PM.
