    how long until you start losing muscle or strength?

    I havent been able to work out for over 2 weeks now due to a serious concussion
    do you think that i have lost alot of strength yet?
    on average how long without working out can someone go before losing strength and muscle mass?

    Nah, you shouldnt have an issue if your diet is in check. Keep protien high, and carbs low at this point as you wont need them. Your muscles take longer than that to atrophe. Take glutamine, it will help preserve muscle, and remember to eat every three hours. Don't worry, I have been out of lifting for a month now, and I havent lost any mass yet.Good luck.

    I don't know. I two weeks off before and basically kept the same diet (which I wouldn't recommend to anyone, cuz it's ****) and I didn't lose anything strength wise, except for maybe a rep on bench. everything else seemed to remain the same though.

    I've heard that you start losing strength as soon as 48 hours. Your strength will decrease slowly if you previously had a good regimen, but you shouldn't see a huge difference after 2 weeks. It should be rather easy to get your strength back when you resume your training as long as you're healthy.

    i read on menshealth.com once that you can go like 6 weeks without seeing a real loss in muscle mass. strength probably goes a bit faster i would imagine.

    I often take a week off after every five weeks of training. Most of the times the lifts will go as you are giving your muscles alot of time to recooperate.

    I was told by my doctor (After being in a cast for 4 weeks) that when not used AT ALL muscles decrease by 5% each week. As long as you're moving around and no muscles are totaly stationary your muscle mass shouldn't decrease a whole lot (Acording to what this doctor told me).

    Muscular strength isn't just related to muscle size (cross sectional area) alone. Muscular strength also relates to your neural efficiency at;

    A) Recruiting fast twitch muscle fibres
    B) The number of muscle fibres recruited (the number of active 'motor units' you have during contraction.

    These neural adaptations are much more permanent than muscle cross sectional area. Cross sectional area often declines first due to factors such as reduced appetite when 'detraining', thus harder to maintain body size. Neural adaptations are however, not affected by external processes (such as calorie intake) and tend to last much longer.

    To put this into practice, when I couldn't train for 10 days, I noticed no loss in strength.
