When did you decide to go suited for DL's?

I'm currently doing the Coan Phillips DL program. At 205lbs my max is 515lbs, and my squat is 405x8,415x7.

I'm not training for any competition, but I was toying with the idea of getting a suit for fun. The Inzer MaxDL from House of Pain.

Are they a waste of time for the personal lifter/non competitor? I thought it might be fun to try it out for a bit.

Do they really make a large difference? I was just thinking it would be fun to try it out and see what i can pull.

Just kinda toying with the idea, nothing serious yet.

Any input is appreciated greatly. Thanks.

Deadlift suits are fun. If you don't plan on competing, but you've got the money for it...eh, sure...try it and see what you can get out of it.

Makes a difference for sumo pullers, not as much for conventional.

I mean is it a 20-30lb difference or more drastic than that?

I have a real good job right now that I will be getting some extra "play" money with, so I was kinda toying with the idea.

there's some people that get 20-30 lbs out of a dl suit, others get 60-70 lbs. depends on where your sticking point/weakness is, really.

the carryover from a deadlift suit will be nothing like what you can get out of a squat suit or bench shirt, so don't expect to be superman just by wearing polyester...

I was figuring around 30-40lbs. Which where I am at would be kinda cool to see.

Do you gain more from squat suits? I'm new to suits.

squat suits, when it comes to squatting...give hell of a lot more of carryover. probably the most carryover to a lift as it pertains to the big 3.

if you buy a suit, don't be surprised when the thing is tight as ****. suits won't work optimally unless it's a struggle to put on.

The day of my first meet 2 months ago decided to use my Inzer Z suit just for the hell of it for deadlifts. Take into mind that this suit is considered "crappy" but the fact that is was soo tight on me due to being around 3 sizes too small helped a lot. Didn't help a lot as I did weight I had done before raw (555) but it just made it much easier when it came to getting the weight off the ground. I pull sumo by the way. Can't imagine being able to grab the bar with such a tight suit if pulling conventional.

IMO worth a try. I suggest you get a squat suit instead as you can use it for squats and it's just as good for deadlifting. Don't see why you would need two when a squat suit is fine.

This. Pulling conventional, I probably wouldn't buy a 3rd piece of gear for the 20-30 lbs I may or may not get out of it but I've used my squat suit to pull sumo and it just helps a decent amount from the floor, and that happens to be my sticking point on sumo.

If you wanna play around with one go for it, but when I got my very first crappy z-suit I thought was the tightest clothing I would ever get on, now compared to an actual suit it feels like under armor or something. Read up on the differences in sizing guides and such before spending the money on a suit that is way too loose or something like that.

I decided not to buy a suit and joined Diablo Barbell instead.

I think it was a good choice.

Good choice. Pretty sure some of the lifters there can help you out when it comes to trying on their gear and whatnot.

if you have the extra cash, getting a beginner type suit might not be a bad idea anyways, if nothing else it will expose your CNS to heavier amounts of weight indirectly increasing your deadlift. It could also improve your lockout and i find i get a good amount of improvement from it. I was dead set against getting a suit untill i got smoked in a strongman competition by a guy that was deadlifting over 800 pounds , and my deadlift is not bad it was teetering around 700 so in talking to him, he convinced me to give it a shot and my raw deadlift has gone up quite a bit from using the suit sparingly and not changing my training at all.
    STRONGMAN in training...
