    UC Davis Muay Thai Class

There is a Muay Thai class at the UC Davis Activities and Recreation Center and I am trying to figure out whether it would be worth trying or not (next quarter, not paying fifty-five dollars for half a quarter). The class is taught by a Randall Elliot and I could not find any information on him.

Yep, but they're already in the middle of a lesson and I would like to start from the beginning. My main problem is if the instructor is reputable or not. I could check out the class sometime, but outside of seeing if it is physically demanding or not, I probably could not tell anything else.

if ur beginnning ur not going to need a master trainer the basics are easy to pick up on, join the class now u probally just missed some easy jabbing drills or kicking drills which can be taught in like 5 mins u jus need practice

The other reason I am holding off is that I have yet to receive my first paycheck and that's not even going to be a full one so I am waiting until I get some stable footing on money.

I'm probably going to check out the class this week to make sure it's not one of those really lame classes made so easy that it is a challenge for no one though.

I'm a computer science and engineering major. This is an extracurricular fitness class at the recreation center on campus. As long as I'm taking all the classes I need, what's wrong with taking an extra one that doesn't even give out a grade?

id take it since anything is better than nothing, but typically school clubs wont allow you a real experience since they fear the liability and mt is a full contact sport.

they'll probably allow you to do pad work, and workout, but probably not spar.

I went to Davis for 3 years, then transferred.

Hey do you know a half black, half mexican(white? no idea) kid with a lip ring, kind of looks like AC Slater from Saved by the Bell? Dude thinks he's strong but looks more like a dirty ass bulk and is in the muai thai group

Actually, the Judo and Boxing club here are supposed to be pretty intense. Requires a lot more time commitment than a lot of the other clubs though. Some clubs though, have people who cannot even do push-ups. I read the syllabus for Muay Thai though, not very much sparring and mainly technique and testing at the end.

Nope, but I never went to the Muay Thai class. I don't think there is a club or anything though?

Hm. The Judo club is legit, I went to a couple of their sessions and its extremely tiring, have a couple friends in the club.

but the muay thai guy, I met at a party and he wanted to fight me and my friend because we beat him in beerpong and he was claiming he's been training muay thai at a uc davis club.

I don't think UC Davis even has a club, just a class. And from what I've read about it, it's pretty much basic stuff with very little conditioning. And anyone who takes martial arts and wants to just go around acting like a tough guy needs more ass kicking, which makes me worry about the class. Everyone I have met seriously into martial arts has always been respectful.

I've been to a few Judo sessions as well. Very intense and the instructor is the type to kick your ass if you did anything stupid like the guy you mentioned.

from the description they want you to be prepared for full contact. Sounds like they will be teaching basic moves and sparing.

Really depends on you goals and why you want to take the class. If you taking it to get in shape it may not be for you. If you taking it for self defense or to better ready you for martial arts it sounds great. You never know till you try.

I took a Tae Kwon Do class in college and it was the best martial arts class I ever took. The instructor didn't care about tryin to sell you more lessons and giving you different colored belts. He wanted to teach self defense and martial arts, self discipline.

You will find that with martial arts, UFC, etc there are a lot of people that just want your $ and could really give a **** if you learn the art.

The thing I am worried about is that it might be filled with the exact type of people who would do this to get in shape. I already have that covered.
