Which would be a better degree choice: Marketing or Management

Ive taken fundamental classes in both and i really like both subjects a lot.

What would be a safer choice to go with? Most people will say to choose which one you enjoy the most, but i honestly like them both the same. I could minor in one if i need, but right now i need to make a decision on what i want to major in.

Which one do you guys think would be more lucrative and easier to find a job with?

    marketing is pretty much worthless.

but a management degree is also kinda funny to me, i mean, who is going to hire a 22 yr old college grad to manage anything but a taco bell?

Both are trash. Management in any real capacity requires an MBA/masters so why does anyone care about a bachelors? Their flavor of the decade. Marketing is just a joke. Do finance, accounting, mathematics, actuarial science, or statistics if you want to do business and want a major that will help you.

Management is the way to go. I'm an accounting major myself, but if I had to choose another business major it'd be management.
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Marketing is not worthless, but its very hard to find a job during these times. A management degree well is like a Liberal Arts in Business IMO, wtf is that shiit anyway.

The original Business Degrees were the following:

    Accounting
    Finance
    Economics
    Law

Thats it. All of those above can go hand to hand with each other. I suggest anyone of the above.

    both are bs

im a senior accounting major and I completely blow off all my mgt and mkt classes and end up with a's or b's in them

the ONLY way a marketing major is usefull is if you are 100 percent dedicated, you land a great internship, and you network like a madman

management majors are for professionals who need a degree in order to get promoted to a management position in a smaller firm

but hey im glad people pick these majors, so I can graduate with a degree in accounting and at least have a CHANCE to make something of myself because of my degree

im declared a finance major at the moment, and i know that it is one of the safest choices aside accounting, but i just find the material boring. Managment and marketing seem like they revolve around human interaction way more, and i believe that that really is the key to doing well in the business environment.

Of course no management major is going to manage a firm right after college, but the skills leaned and practiced will help in any job they find. Its all about social interaction within the workplace that will help you move up. I hear this non-stop. If people like you as a person, then you are pretty much set

Unfortunately for a great number of people, this is spot on.

The sad truth is, anymore, you don't get to "be what you want to be". You need to pick a hard, in-demand major, or you need to be the best-of-the-best in your chosen "easy" major.

dude, no employer cares about those 'soft' skills in the marketplace. majoring in management or marketing isn't going to change your personality.

As mentioned already these majors are pretty bad. Management is alright but as previously mentioned you'll end up managing a fast food place. (yes know about 4 business majors who did this). If you are going to be starting your own business I'm sure it could be useful.

As mentioned Accounting or Finance would be pretty decent, but I suppose you gotta do what makes you happy.

I'm majoring in Criminal Justice because I really like it. Will probably be getting my masters degree. Even if it never allows me to earn a lot of money I started investing at 18 years old so I'll be g2g even in Criminal Justice.

My point is, do what you wanna do, but have a realistic idea of what your career is gonna be like. You may need to look in to other sources of income if you go down the path of Marketing or Management.

doing fuuck loads of presentations and group work and whatnot in the classes would help improve yourself more than just cramming numbers though

Of course no management major is going to manage a firm right after college, but the skills leaned and practiced will help in any job they find. Its all about social interaction within the workplace that will help you move up. I hear this non-stop. If people like you as a person, then you are pretty much set
how do people find management and marketing course work "interesting"

to me it is all common sense, and when you get a job doing either you're going to do what works for you....

thats why I can't understand why people enjoy studying soft skills

it's all theorie and rhetoric, your basically learning an "opinion" of some harvard professor who probably didn't do much of what he's actually a so called expert on

I know I'm being a little harsh but I find accounting and finance interesting, because I am actually learning a skill, a trade, hard skills that I can utilize.
