Why not drink a protein shake INTRA workout?

How come everyone recommends drinking a protein shake post workout, and there are all these "intra-workout" supps and what not.

But what about some whey isolate mixed with some juice intra-workout? I figure that would be a good and cheap way to go.

Is there a disadvantage to consuming protein while working out? Besides, your post workout shake is going to be taken much longer after the first exercise you do, and shortly after the last exercise.

I prefer to make a shake from about a kilo of steak, that way I'm getting protein and creatine intra. I also throw some cottage cheese in there for teh bcaa's.

Yes. What you are doing is forcing blood to be pulled into your digestive tract so that you are able to digest the protein/carbs. This will take away from blood going to your muscles, where you need it to be during your workout. Don't worry about the PWO meal/shake being long after your first exercise. This is why you need to have a pre-workout meal/shake. This will keep aminos/glucose high for during the first part of your workout.

most intra workout shakes are amino acids and amino acids are just protein broken down so instead of drinking protein during your workout you just drink some amino acids and then your body doesnt have to break it down so thats one step already done.

With juice you probably won't have any issues as it contains simple carbohydrates.

Ain't nothing wrong with your idea, K... Pretty much every intra- supp has protein/aminos in 'em.

Look into an Intra workout drink.

My personal favorite that i have recently started using (and will not go back to anything else) is XF ICE, Grape flavor.

    No prob.

Also, consider gettin' powdered Gatorade (no fructose--not the ready made drinks you can buy) and mixing that in with your protein....
