i was in Wal-Mart,looking at both the Whey Protein and Creatine bottles scratching my head.i REALLY didn't know which to get.im new to this kind of thing,i have never took stuff like this before,i just now decided on trying it.i do take vitamins however,i've been taking them for kinda awhile now, they do work i feel.lol but for some reason i bought the Creatine, not sure why though,it seemed better i guess from reading the label.anyway,i was looking on other sites and they said Whey Protein was the better way to go,and Creatine may be unsafe.i just thought i would ask you guys and get your opinions on it.

-Different purposes
-no calories vs varied calories
-water retention vs no retention
-Strength/muscle gain from creatine
-able to hit protein numbers with whey=to muscle gain to a certain degree if the rest of the diet/training is sound.
Whey>Creatine because your not going to magically gain muscle without enough calories.

That's fine.
Whey is good for hitting your protein numbers, also great post workout. It also has high leucine content for a protein substance, which has been linked to more synthesis of muscle.
Creatine is good for water retention in muscles and strength gains. You will gain weight with the creatine, but you shouldn't worry about it.
If you're new to everything, worry about diet first. There is plenty of diet advice on these boards. Start some reading around here.

Why not take both. A lot of people have a hard time meeting their daily protein requirements through food alone, so shakes are a very easy way to squeeze in extra protein (and calories.) Plus there is no excuse to not have a mid-meal snack. Just throw a couple of scoops in a bottle and when your ready, mix in some water and slam it backs, only takes all of a minute. Plus, whey is great post-workout when mixed with water, and before bed when mixed with milk (casein in milk takes longer to digest, so instead of going 8 hours without a meal when you're sleeping, you'll only go like 5-6 due to the amount of time it takes to digest the casein.)
As for creatine, just about everyone I know takes it. Starts off slow and only take what you feel your body needs. Just because a company tells you that you can take 3 servings a day doesn't mean you should.Last edited by Adds420; 01-27-2010 at 06:14 AM.

if you can hit your protein numbers with whole food then do it, whey (not that it is bad) is seen as a covenience thing. Some people would rather make a shake in a minute vs cook some chicken over half an hour. Also whey (as well as dextrose) can be useful though not needed a few mins after a workout for something that will hit you quick.
I would say use both but that's so you dont always have to cook a meal I however dont have a choice but to eat whole foods.
