Is 2 days on, one day off a good ab routine? If not any ideas on how many times per week one should work them?

Well I would train them on leg day (squats), Back day (deadlift), Shoulder day (Press), Chest day (bench)

like others have said not more than 3 times a week, even that is a bit much 1-2x is ideal imo. start with 1 or 2 and see from there. It's all about trial and error. Your body is different than ours and what we do isn't necessarily the best for you. The best you can do is start from the numbers others are doing and then pave your own way
